Summary: Precise measurements of periodontal parameters are crucial for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease. This study compared the measurements of a manual probe and an electronic pressure-sensitive probe, and found significant differences in pocket depths but not gingival margins. The correlation between the two probes was statistically significant. However, there were no significant differences in pain sensitivity and time needed for measurements.

Summary: This study in Morocco found a high prevalence and severity of periodontal disease among children and young adults attending public schools compared to other populations of similar age. The rates of probing depth and attachment loss increased significantly with age.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the supra-alveolar gingival dimension (GD) and the clinical pocket probing depth (PD) using data from an intraoral scanner (IOS) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and identify the clinical features affecting PD. The results showed a positive correlation between GD and PD, and this correlation was stronger for untreated sites, sites with bleeding on probing (BOP), and sites with a larger PD.

Summary: This study investigates the association between periodontitis and the risk of all-cause and cause-specific mortality in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The results suggest that moderate/severe periodontitis and high levels of clinical attachment loss (CAL) and periodontal probing depth (PPD) are associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality, as well as cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related mortality, in adults with CKD in the US.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of endodontic treatment on grade 3 endo-periodontal lesions without root damage, showing that endodontic therapy alone resulted in treatment success for some of the teeth.

Summary: End-stage renal failure often leads to complications in many organs and systems, with pharmacotherapy exacerbating existing oral pathologies. Reduced saliva secretion can result in dental plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation. There is evidence linking chronic kidney diseases to periodontal health, highlighting the importance of evaluating and treating oral health in these patients.

Summary: Patients with RPc >= 5 mm at more than 15% of the sites are at risk for tooth loss. Grading and RPc >= 5 mm displayed very good predictive capability of TLP.

Summary: The study found that stable sites in periodontitis progression were characterized by high asynchrony, directional changes dominating community reordering, and new species more likely to be recruited if a close relative was not recruited previously. Progressing sites exhibited low asynchrony and convergence, while fluctuating sites had high asynchrony, community convergence, and a neutral recruitment model.

Summary: In this study, the authors analyzed the follow-up data from two cohorts, SHIP-START and SHIP-TREND, to investigate the progression of clinical attachment levels (CAL) and its relationship with age. They found that the older the participants were, the lower the average annual change in mean CAL, and remission of CAL was more frequently observed in older subjects. The authors also highlighted the importance of considering selection bias and tooth extraction during follow-up when interpreting the data.

Summary: The objective of this study was to assess the influence of non-surgical mechanical debridement (NSMD) with and without adjunct probiotic therapy (PT) on periodontal parameters and salivary cortisol levels in patients with periodontal inflammatory conditions (PIC). The results showed that NSMD continues to be the gold standard and most reliable treatment strategy for managing PIC. There was no significant difference in salivary cortisol levels among the different treatment groups.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the effects of periodontal-orthodontic treatment on dental and periodontal issues in patients with severe periodontitis. Results showed that orthodontic treatment may lead to small improvements in periodontal parameters without significantly affecting prognosis. Factors such as patient sex, baseline disease severity, and treatment duration should be considered in overall treatment.

Summary: The limited evidence from a variety of studies, including case series and controlled trials, suggests that there is currently no solid conclusion regarding the impact of orthodontic treatment on tilted molars, teeth with treated intra-bony defects, and teeth with treated furcation defects in stage-IV periodontitis patients. High risk of bias and methodological heterogeneity among studies further complicate drawing definitive conclusions.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the periodontal and peri-implant tissue statuses and whole salivary IL-1 beta levels in SSRI users and controls. The results showed that as long as oral hygiene is maintained, both SSRI users and controls demonstrated healthy periodontal and peri-implant tissue statuses, with no significant differences in whole salivary IL-1 beta levels.

Summary: There is a difference in the prevalence and severity of chronic periodontitis among older adults in two generations in Australia, with the recent generation having a higher risk of severe periodontitis. Age, gender, place of birth, income, dental insurance, and smoking are significant risk factors associated with severe periodontitis among older Australians.
