Summary: This study investigated the impact of early interdisciplinary palliative care on the quality of life, psychological functioning, pain management, and nutrition factors of NSCLC patients. The results showed that patients receiving early palliative care had better quality of life, psychological stability, pain management, and nutrition status compared to those receiving standard oncological care. Moreover, they also had significantly longer overall survival.

Summary: The presence of psychiatric comorbidities in non-small cell lung cancer patients leads to increased 30-day readmissions, but does not affect surgical outcomes or survival rates. Further research is needed to identify the reasons for the increased risk of readmission in patients with psychiatric comorbidities in order to avoid denying surgical care based on these conditions.

Summary: Surgical care for early stage non-small-cell lung cancer is constantly improving with new procedures and techniques, particularly a shift towards minimally invasive surgery. These advancements in care are crucial as there is an increase in early detection through screening and a greater need for adjuvant and neoadjuvant strategies.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed patients with advanced NSCLC treated with first-line pembrolizumab, finding no major differences in safety or efficacy between White and Black patients. Even in a subset of patients with high PD-L1 expression, there was still no difference in efficacy by race.

Summary: This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of the Chinese newly developed PD-L1 inhibitor sugemalimab plus chemotherapy (Sugema-Chemo) in China. The results showed that compared to chemotherapy alone, Sugema-Chemo increased QALY by 0.82 and life-years by 1.26, but with an average cost increase of $72,472. It was found that Sugema-Chemo might not be cost-effective for patients with metastatic NSCLC in China.

Summary: Among patients with resectable early-stage NSCLC, perioperative pembrolizumab improved event-free survival, major pathological response, and pathological complete response. The addition of pembrolizumab to neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery showed significant benefits compared to neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone followed by surgery.

Summary: In this study, we evaluated the prognostic value of chromatin structure in early-stage lung cancer patients. We found that non-diploid DNA status and the combination of ploidy and nucleotyping can predict long-term outcomes. Patients with non-diploidy and chromatin homogenous status may benefit from adjuvant therapy.

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the efficacy and safety of immunotherapy in early and late lung cancer, finding that immunotherapy has better efficacy in early lung cancer compared to advanced lung cancer, especially when combined with chemotherapy. In terms of safety, immunotherapy, either alone or in combination with other therapies, was found to be safer in early lung cancer than in advanced lung cancer.

Summary: This study evaluated the outcomes of metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer treated with the CheckMate 9LA protocol. The results showed that the combination of nivolumab plus ipilimumab and chemotherapy can be safely used in routine clinical practice, with outcomes comparable to clinical trials. Adenocarcinoma patients had longer survival compared to squamous cell carcinoma patients, and patients with PD-L1 tumor expression ≥1% had longer overall survival.

Summary: International experts reached consensus on a large number of criteria for referral to specialist palliative care for patients with advanced heart failure. These criteria cover various aspects including advanced heart failure, comorbidities, treatments, hospital utilization, prognostic estimates, symptom burden, and decision making/social support. These criteria could be useful for standardizing access to palliative care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Summary: Care work in Chile is primarily carried out by female family members without much government support. This study examines the daily experiences of family caregivers through interviews with 42 main family caregivers of older people. It finds that the nature of care work is complex and that the tasks performed may not necessarily correspond to the intensity or negative experiences of caregiving. The study also highlights the importance of considering relationships and the broader social and economic context in understanding the caregiving experience.
