Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the influences of sleep duration, sleep adequacy, and daytime sleepiness on survival outcomes among Stage III colon cancer patients. The results showed that both very long and very short sleep durations were significantly associated with increased mortality among these patients. Therefore, interventions targeting sleep health among colon cancer patients may be crucial for providing comprehensive care.

Summary: This study used the AJCC 7th staging manual to investigate the impact of adjuvant radiotherapy on overall and colon cancer-specific survival in patients with T4aN0 colon cancer. The results showed no significant difference in survival between patients who received adjuvant radiotherapy and those who did not, after controlling for confounding factors such as chemotherapy.

Summary: The study found that adjuvant chemotherapy is associated with improved overall survival in resected Stage IA PDAC patients, especially in those with good prognostic features. However, in certain specific cohorts, such as those with body/tail tumors or all good prognostic features, adjuvant chemotherapy did not lead to improved survival. Further research is needed to personalize treatment for patients with PDAC.

Summary: The role of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) who receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association of AC with overall survival (OS) in PDAC patients after surgical resection. The results showed that AC was associated with improved survival compared to no AC. AC may benefit patients with aggressive tumors in achieving prolonged survival.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the independent and interactive associations of planned treatment duration, celecoxib use, physical activity, BMI, diabetes, and vitamin B6 with Oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (OIPN). The results showed that longer treatment cycles, lower physical activity, higher BMI, and diabetes were significantly associated with increased OIPN severity.

Summary: The benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with T2aN0 stage IB lung adenocarcinoma remain controversial. This retrospective cohort study analyzed patients diagnosed from January 2011 to December 2017 and found that adjuvant chemotherapy improved overall survival and cancer specific survival in patients with tumors >3 cm, but <=4 cm. However, there was no survival benefit in patients with tumors <=3 cm with visceral pleural invasion.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the real-world treatment patterns of adjuvant chemotherapy for resected pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients. Factors associated with lower probability of receiving adjuvant chemotherapy included older age, node negativity, higher comorbidity index, and living in the Northern zone. Worse overall survival was associated with higher comorbidity index and node-positive disease among patients who received adjuvant gemcitabine +/- capecitabine.

Summary: In this randomized, open-label trial, adjuvant nab-paclitaxel + gemcitabine was compared with gemcitabine alone for resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. The study found that although nab-paclitaxel + gemcitabine showed favorable overall survival, it did not meet the primary endpoint of independently assessed disease-free survival.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated the efficacy and safety of GemCap versus Gem as adjuvant chemotherapy in an Asian population. The results showed that GemCap had better overall survival and consistent clinical outcomes compared to Gem. Further evaluation of optimal adjuvant chemotherapy is necessary due to the emergence of mFOLFIRINOX as the new standard treatment for resected PDAC patients.

Summary: Cisplatin is a commonly used chemotherapeutic agent for solid tumors, but its efficacy is limited by multi-drug resistance and time-dose side-effects. New nanomedicine strategies are needed to enhance its therapeutic potential. Studies show that polyunsaturated fatty acids and lipid peroxidation products can improve chemotherapy effectiveness, and combining a lecithin-based nanoemulsion system with cisplatin can enhance cisplatin's anti-cancer activity.

Summary: Acute gastrointestinal bleeding is a common reason for emergency department visits and hospital admissions. CT angiography (CTA) has become an important tool in evaluating acute GI bleeding. This study aimed to identify patient and clinical characteristics that predict CTA results. The results showed that a drop in hemoglobin from baseline was significantly associated with a positive CTA.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the specific types, durations, and intensities of recreational physical activity that are associated with the greatest improvements in disease-free survival (DFS) for patients with colon cancer. The study found that engaging in larger volumes of recreational physical activity, longer durations of light-to-moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, or any vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise were significantly associated with improved DFS.

Summary: GERD is common in lung transplant recipients and is associated with poorer outcomes. In this study, impedance metrics were found to be more sensitive than pH-metry alone for detecting GERD. Abnormal acid exposure time (AET) was associated with worse survival, while low distal mean nocturnal baseline impedance (MNBI) was associated with decreased forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) at 3-year posttransplant. These findings suggest that pH-metry alone may be sufficient for guiding GERD management after lung transplant.

Summary: This study assesses uncertainties associated with tissue heterogeneities using different dose calculation algorithms and quantifies potential associations with local failure for lung SBRT. The results show that large differences in dosimetric indices can occur when transitioning to advanced algorithms, but the majority of the differences are not associated with local failure, indicating that uncertainty in near maximal tumor dose may be predictive of treatment outcome.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to identify patients at risk of very poor survival after radiation therapy (RT) for brain metastases. Factors associated with 30-day mortality (30-DM) after RT were analyzed, and it was found that progressive intrathoracic disease, progressive liver and/or adrenal metastases, and inpatient status were associated with dying within 30 days of RT, while a higher Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) score, synchronous brain metastases at initial diagnosis, and outpatient palliative care utilization were associated with surviving more than 30 days after RT.
