Summary: This paper explores whether six-month delta values of muscle power can predict functional geriatric assessment (FGA) in older adults. The results suggest that 6-month delta muscle power may be suitable for predicting physical function in the long term.

Summary: Preoperative frailty is associated with adverse outcomes after surgery. This study showed that functional performance, functional dependence, social support, and urinary incontinence were independently associated with and improved the prediction of loss of independence after surgery. Screening and optimizing these domains may help mitigate the risk of postoperative loss of independence.

Summary: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with sleep impairment, but little is known about modifiable factors that may ameliorate this relationship, such as adaptive emotion regulation (ER) skills. The study found that positive reappraisal and refocusing on planning, two types of ER skills, moderated the relationship between ACEs and sleep quality in older adults.

Summary: The study found that high levels of CRP are associated with unfavorable rehabilitation outcomes in elderly inpatients, and have predictive value in this regard. It is noteworthy that a significant proportion of patients with favorable rehabilitation outcomes still exhibit severe disabilities. Therefore, further research is needed to investigate the potential reduction of CRP levels and improvement of rehabilitation outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether cognitive reserve and brain reserve in cognitively normal older adults could predict changes in their driving behaviors. The findings suggest that increased hippocampal and whole brain atrophy, as well as lower cognitive reserve scores, were associated with changes in driving behaviors over time, indicating that individuals with lower brain and cognitive reserve may reduce their driving exposure and avoid highways.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationships between subcomponents of CGA and adverse events (AEs) in elderly patients undergoing posterior lumbar fusion surgery. The results showed that postoperative major AEs were associated with delirium, nutritional status, cognitive impairment, Charlson comorbidity index (CCI), and severe dependent. Screening for delirium, cognitive impairment, nutrition, and CCI preoperatively is essential to prevent postoperative major AEs in elderly surgical patients.

Summary: The study found that childhood cancer survivors have poorer diet quality and are more likely to have parents report picky eating behaviors. These outcomes highlight the need for a tailored intervention aimed at improving healthy eating behaviors in childhood cancer survivors after treatment.

Summary: This study developed and validated prediction models for a decline in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among adult survivors of childhood cancer. The study found that chronic health conditions, smoking, and psychological factors were associated with a decline in HRQOL. These findings suggest the need for interventions to prevent poor HRQOL in this population.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate depressive symptoms, loneliness, and apathy in older patients with breast cancer within the first 5 years after diagnosis. The results showed that 10% of patients had significant depressive symptoms, while loneliness and apathy were present in 31% and 41% of all patients, respectively, shortly after the acute treatment. These symptoms did not change over time in the whole cohort, and patients who received adjuvant systemic therapies had similar mental health outcomes as those who did not. However, frail patients were at higher risk of experiencing these symptoms.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between time restricted feeding (TRF) and different areas of cognitive function in the elderly in Chinese communities. This study consisted of 1353 community-dwelling Chinese older adults aged 60 years and older in Chongming area, Shanghai. The study found that TRF may be associated with a higher incidence rate of cognitive impairment.

Summary: The Dutch Safety Management System (VMS) screening for frail older patients is used to predict adverse outcomes. This retrospective cohort study in geriatric inpatients found that almost all patients scored positive on at least one VMS domain. The number of positive VMS domains had some predictive value for institutionalization, while individual domains were able to predict adverse outcomes.

Summary: This study used a scoping review method to investigate the predictive value of intrinsic capacity for adverse health outcomes in older adults. The results indicated that intrinsic capacity could predict certain adverse health outcomes, but more high-quality studies are needed to further explore the longitudinal relationships between intrinsic capacity and adverse health outcomes due to the limited number of studies and small sample size.

Summary: The study evaluated aerobic exercise capacity in 5-year ICU survivors and found that they generally had lower exercise capacity, often with muscular limitation. Severity of organ failure during ICU stay was independently associated with impairments in exercise capacity.

Summary: A machine learning model was developed to predict poor school outcomes in children surviving intensive care unit (ICU). By using routine ICU information, the model demonstrated high predictive ability. The results of this study are important for prioritizing follow-up and targeting rehabilitative measures.
