Summary: Temperature sensing is crucial for living organisms' survival, and turtle embryos exhibit thermotaxic behavior by activating two heat-sensitive ion channels, MrTRPA1 and MrTRPV1. These TRP channels play a key role in controlling the thermal behavior of turtle embryos through a delicate functional balance.

Summary: The study aimed to prepare a pharmaceutical Carbopol-based formulation containing capsaicin and evaluate its in vitro release and antimicrobial and antifungal properties. The results showed that approximately 50% of capsaicin was released within 52 hours from the formulation, and it significantly enhanced the antimicrobial effects of capsaicin against various bacteria and fungi strains.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of capsaicin-loaded PLGA nanoparticles in reducing pain and itch associated with histamine-independent pruritic diseases. The controlled release of capsaicin from the nanoparticles led to desensitization of superficial nociceptors, resulting in decreased nociceptive and pruritic sensations. The nanoparticles exhibited good release profiles and showed promising results in both mouse and human experiments.

Summary: This study aimed to determine if plasma menthol glucuronide (MG) concentrations can predict changes in subjective drug effects, urges to smoke, and heart rate following concurrent inhaled menthol and intravenous nicotine. The results showed that changes in plasma MG concentrations were proportional to menthol concentration in e-liquids, and were predictive of cooling effect in menthol smokers without active nicotine infusion.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the long-term inflammatory effects of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on pain sensation and neuropathy development. The results showed that the application of capsaicin cream had a stronger effect on healthy subjects than on RA patients. There were contrary effects observed in terms of changes in CHEPs. The findings suggest the existence of sensitization in RA patients caused by chronic inflammation and that capsaicin could act as a marker for the extent of sensitization and neuropathic symptoms.

Summary: There is limited research on cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) and the use of topical capsaicin as a treatment in Spain. This retrospective study analyzed CHS patients seen in a hospital emergency department between 2018 and 2019. The study found that CHS has a low incidence in the emergency department in Spain, but patients have a high recurrence rate. The use of capsaicin ointment was found to be efficient and safe for CHS treatment.

Summary: In this study, acute sensitization of the skin with topical capsaicin was found to enhance the sustained phase of pain in a noninvasive surrogate model of intraoperative pain. Capsaicin increased the pain magnitude and duration induced by the blade, but did not fully match the sustained duration of incisional pain. The blade model showed similarities to incisional pain in normal skin and acquired a more capsaicin-like pain descriptor pattern in capsaicin-treated skin, possibly due to peripheral sensitization of the TRPV1 receptor.

Summary: Deep neural networks show improved performance in predicting DNA and RNA binding protein sequence specificities compared to previous methods, but interpreting the predictions remains challenging. Global importance analysis (GIA) is introduced as a model interpretability method to quantify the effect size of putative patterns on model predictions at a population level. GIA can be used to test hypotheses of patterns and interactions, revealing that deep learning models not only learn sequence motifs, but also consider motif number, spacing, and sequence context.

Summary: CBG, CBD, and THC individually demonstrated potent dose-related inhibition of capsaicin responses in DRG neurons in vitro, and their combination showed enhanced effectiveness. The high correlation between cannabinoid-mediated calcium influx and reduction of capsaicin responses suggests potential synergistic effects of CBG, CBD, and THC when applied together. Further studies are needed to explore the efficacy and tolerability of these combinations in vivo.

Summary: The objective of this study is to investigate and compare the effect of tunnelling on the response of a framed building on different types of foundations. The ovalling effect of a circular tunnel on the displacement of the building was analyzed using FEM-based software ABAQUS. The study considered three different types of foundations: isolated foundation, mat foundation, and pile foundation. The results showed that the maximum displacement of the building frame occurred when the tunnel was situated just below the center axis of the building frame for all types of foundations. Building constructed over isolated foundation showed the highest displacement compared to building constructed over mat foundation and pile foundation for all locations and sizes of tunnel.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of tunnelling on the response of a framed building on different types of foundations through shake table test. The results show that the ovalling effect of circular tunnel mainly affects the displacement of the building, and its influence diminishes as the distance between the building frame and tunnel increases. Furthermore, the type of foundation used for the building also has varying degrees of influence on the effect of the tunnel.

Summary: The study found that epidermal nerve fiber density was significantly decreased in both painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and painless-DPN, with no significant differences in regenerating nerve fibers, CGRP, or vWF. Vascular density was significantly increased in painless-DPN and No-DPN groups compared to healthy volunteers, but it was significantly higher in the painful-DPN group. The ratio of CGRP:vWF in sub-epidermal nerve fibers showed a significant decrease in painful-DPN compared to painless-DPN, suggesting that increased dermal vasculature may differentiate painful-DPN from painless-DPN.
