Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and resistance mechanisms of colistin-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (ColRAB) isolates in Serbia, assess their genetic relatedness to other circulating A. baumannii isolates in the neighbouring European countries, and analyse the global genomic epidemiology of ColRAB isolates. The findings reveal the central role of the twocomponent regulating system, PmrAB, and increased expression of the pmrC gene in colistin resistance in A. baumannii. The study also highlights the global dissemination of several high-risk clonal lineages of ColRAB isolates.

Summary: The increasing number of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria poses a serious threat to global health. In this study, a colistin-resistant Acinetobacter junii isolate, AJ6079, was identified in a clinical blood sample. The isolate exhibited a dry phenotype and had a thick outer membrane. Comparative genomic analysis revealed several previously unreported point mutations in colistin-resistance-related genes, potentially correlated with colistin resistance in A. junii. Further research is needed to verify these findings.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the clinical, epidemiological, and molecular characteristics of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from bloodstream infections in a South African hospital. The majority of isolates were multidrug-resistant, and colistin resistance was confirmed in 9.4% of isolates, which belonged to ST1 and ST2 sequence types. The detection of the lpsB gene indicated a potential threat and required close monitoring.

Summary: This study characterized the genetic traits of biofilm-forming carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii clinical isolates in a tertiary care hospital. The prevalence of biofilm-producing A. baumannii isolates was determined and their association with biofilm-related and antibiotic resistance-associated genotypes was investigated. The predominance of biofilm-producing CRAB isolates identified in this study is concerning, and understanding the risk factors could help control the selection and spread of A. baumannii in hospitals, thereby improving patient care quality.
