Summary: Fibrosis is a common pathological repair process in organs, but there is a lack of effective therapeutic methods. Repurposing existing drugs, such as statins, can be a complementary strategy to treat tissue fibrosis. Statins have been found to have anti-fibrotic effects through various mechanisms, and a better understanding of these effects can aid in the development of novel therapeutic agents.

Summary: Over the years, the complications of viral hepatitis and alcohol-related liver diseases have been a major concern in hepatology. However, recent advancements in the field have revealed a paradigm shift towards nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) as the leading cause of liver cirrhosis and cancer. This review focuses on updating knowledge about the pathogenesis of NAFLD-induced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), surveillance challenges, and potential disease markers, such as molecular biomarkers, which may revolutionize risk stratification, early detection, and treatment selection for NAFLD-related HCC.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and arterial hypertension (AH) are common non-communicable diseases worldwide. They often coexist and are associated with each other regardless of the presence of other metabolic factors.

Summary: This study found an association between oral statin use and dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction. Significant differences were observed in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and meiboscore levels between statin users and nonstatin users. Older age and nonstatin use were associated with higher meiboscores, suggesting a potential protective effect of statins on the meibomian gland.

Summary: The use of statins may provide a survival benefit for women with ovarian cancer, particularly for those with endometrioid cancers. However, bias in observational studies poses challenges in conclusively establishing this association.

Summary: This study, based on a large US prospective cohort, found that statin use is significantly associated with a decrease in cancer-related mortality among patients with NAFLD. These findings are important for guiding clinical decision making regarding statin use in NAFLD patients.

Summary: Hepatitis is an inflammatory disease of the liver caused by viral infections, most commonly hepatitis B and hepatitis C. Host lipid metabolism, particularly cholesterol metabolism, is crucial for hepatitis viral infection and life cycle. Manipulating host cholesterol metabolism-related genes and proteins, such as using cholesterol-lowering drugs, has shown promising results in the treatment of viral hepatitis.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the effects of high-dose statin therapy before surgical revascularization. The results showed that additional statin loading before surgery did not reduce the rate of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) occurring within 30 days.

Summary: Fatty liver disease is a complex liver pathology with various pathogenesis and lack of effective treatments. Hepatokines play important roles in the development of NAFLD and NASH and interact with cytokines or peptides secreted from muscle, adipose tissue, and hepatic stellate cells.

Summary: With the development of the social economy, unhealthy living habits and eating styles are gradually affecting people's health in recent years. NAFLD, as a chronic liver disease, has become an increasingly serious public health problem due to these factors. Inflammasomes, as a protein complex, play a crucial role in the development of NAFLD and other diseases.

Summary: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a prevalent disease associated with various comorbidities, leading to a socioeconomic burden. Despite the lack of approved pharmacological treatment for NAFLD, combination therapies may be a rational alternative due to the multifaceted pathophysiology of the disease.

Summary: This study conducted a time-dependent survival analysis comparing the survival of liver transplant recipients with and without nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The overall survival was comparable between NASH and non-NASH patients after liver transplantation. However, NASH patients with higher model for end-stage liver disease scores had worse overall survival.
