Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on diagnostic tests for IgE-mediated food allergy. It found that skin prick test and specific IgE to extracts had high sensitivity, while specific IgE to components and basophil activation test had high specificity for the diagnosis of individual food allergies.

Summary: A systematic review assessed the diagnostic accuracy of rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) for Ebola virus disease (EVD). The results showed that lateral flow assays had a sensitivity of 86.1% and specificity of 97%, while rapid PCR devices had a sensitivity of 96.2% and specificity of 96.8%. These RDTs can be used as a 'rule in' test to expedite treatment and vaccination.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the accuracy of cholera rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) and found that they have moderate sensitivity and specificity, especially when enriched with alkaline peptone water (APW). Although they are less useful for clinical management, the current generation of RDTs can be valuable for surveillance efforts if used in a principled manner.

Summary: The diagnostic accuracy of skin tests and specific IgE quantification in identifying patients reporting a penicillin/B-lactam allergy is low, with low sensitivity and high specificity. More research is needed to assess the role of these tests in stratifying patients for delabeling.

Summary: The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology is updating guidelines on food allergy diagnosis and management by conducting a new systematic review to assess the accuracy of index tests for IgE-mediated food allergy. The protocol aims to evaluate various tests' accuracy in diagnosing food allergy, which can be beneficial in both clinical and research settings.

Summary: This study compared the reporting quality of systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy studies using the PRISMA-DTA and original PRISMA checklists. The results showed that PRISMA-DTA identified more reporting issues, especially in critical sections such as title, abstract, and methods, compared to PRISMA-2009 and PRISMA-2020. However, PRISMA-DTA was not commonly used by researchers and was inadequately endorsed by imaging journals. Therefore, there is a strong need for authors and journals to more widely adopt PRISMA-DTA for reporting diagnostic test accuracy systematic reviews.

Summary: In this study, FibroMeter versions were systematically reviewed for their performance in detecting different levels of fibrosis in patients with NAFLD. The findings indicated that FibroMeter VCTE had the highest diagnostic accuracy in detecting advanced fibrosis, followed by FibroMeter V2G and FibroMeter NAFLD, with no significant differences between the different versions. Head-to-head comparison studies are needed to further evaluate the performance of these tests.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of rapid antigen tests in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for triaging pneumococcal meningitis. The meta-analysis of 44 studies found that the sensitivity of rapid antigen tests in CSF was 99.5% and the specificity was 98.2%. The results suggest that this testing method can be utilized for triaging pneumococcal meningitis, but further research is needed to validate its clinical benefits.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate if the combined semiquantitative determination of glucose and LE in synovial fluid can improve the diagnosis of PJI. The results showed that the combined test had high specificity but lower sensitivity compared to LE analysis alone, indicating it may not be sufficient to rule out PJI with certainty.

Summary: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease with multiorgan inflammatory involvement. Lupus nephritis, which affects about 50% of SLE patients, is associated with delayed diagnosis and poor outcomes. This overview aims to summarize systematic reviews on the accuracy of novel serum and urinary biomarkers for diagnosing lupus nephritis in patients with SLE. The results suggest that anti-C1q, urinary MCP-1, TWEAK, and NGAL show promise as potential biomarkers for lupus nephritis, but further research is needed for validation and clinical use.

Summary: The EU's IVDR introduces companion diagnostics (CDx) as a new legal term, aimed at identifying patient subgroups most likely to benefit from a treatment. A systematic search in a clinical trials database identified 3643 trials conducted between 2004 and 2022, analyzing the use of biomarker testing in patient stratification, with PD-L1 and HER2 being the most frequently tested biomarkers. The findings also suggest overlap with non-European authorities implementing the CDx concept, indicating potential CDx candidates under the IVDR.

Summary: The EU In-Vitro Diagnostic Device Regulation (IVDR) aims to ensure transparent validation of diagnostic devices, traceability of results, and post-market surveillance. Laboratory-developed tests (LDTs) may be used in the absence of suitable commercial devices. The implementation of IVDR may lead to the need for urgent replacement of commercial tests with LDTs, and the workload will depend on various factors.
