Summary: The study found evidence of abnormal head growth in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) during the prenatal period, particularly in the second trimester. Male fetuses had larger heads than females, and fetal head growth was slower in ASD and TDS groups compared to TDP. Sex had an impact on fetal head growth and its association with the severity of ASD.

Summary: In this study, arterial dimensions in childhood were found to be associated with current anthropometrics, especially lean body mass, and sex, explaining differences in arterial layer thickness. No signs of fetal programming of cardiovascular risk or arterial health in early childhood were observed.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the neurobiological substrate and influencing factors of isolated fetal ventriculomegaly (iFVM). Through magnetic resonance imaging of 89 fetuses, it was found that the development of transient fetal zones/compartments was abnormal in iFVM fetuses, suggesting a link between the enlarged lateral ventricles and the development of transient fetal zones.

Summary: This study found that in pregnancies with early-onset fetal growth restriction, the AREDF group more frequently experienced fetal distress leading to earlier deliveries, but AREDF was not associated with increased perinatal morbidity and mortality compared to PEDF.

Summary: Late fetal growth restriction (FGR) is associated with mild growth restriction and normal or mild abnormal doppler flows. Abnormal cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) in late FGR is reflected in placental vascular malperfusion lesions, resulting in adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Summary: PCOS, a common reproductive endocrine disorder in women, presents challenges in diagnosis and treatment. The International PCOS network, jointly sponsored by ESHRE and ASRM, developed evidence-based guidelines over several years, but satisfaction with diagnosis and treatment options is low among both clinicians and patients. Recent research has highlighted important findings in diagnosis and treatment, as well as ongoing challenges in understanding and managing PCOS.

Summary: Fetal acidemia is a common cause of fetal death and central nervous system injury. However, certain fetal pathophysiological processes can cause significant changes in fetal heart rate patterns even before the development of acidemia. These processes include fetal infection/inflammation, anemia, fetal congenital heart disease, and fetal central nervous system injury. It is important for clinicians to consider these possibilities when significant changes in fetal heart rate patterns are observed. The fetal heart rate patterns may provide more insight into the fetal condition and pathophysiology than the acid-base status at birth.

Summary: Metabolic conditions such as obesity are becoming more prevalent worldwide and have been linked to early onset cardiovascular disease. Dysregulated cholesterol transport has been found to trigger an overactive systemic inflammatory response, contributing to the development of cardiovascular disease. Accumulation of cholesterol in the bone marrow may also drive systemic inflammation. Current therapeutic strategies target both inflammation and cholesterol transport and biologic therapy is used to restore lipoprotein function and mitigate the immune response.

Summary: Studies on the link between abnormal fetal growth and cardiac changes in childhood have shown conflicting results. This study found that abnormal fetal growth does have an impact on cardiac morphology and function during childhood, but the clinical significance of these changes is likely to be small.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine if customized fetal growth curves (CCs) excluding abnormal maternal weight are better than standard CCs at identifying small-for-gestational-age (SGA) infants. The results showed that the use of the new CCs allowed for a more accurate identification of SGA at risk of adverse perinatal outcomes compared to the standard CCs.

Summary: This study found that fetal heart development abnormalities can be induced by maternal exposure to bisphenol A (BPA), and suggested that this may be mediated by the cell ferroptosis mechanism regulated by system Xc.

Summary: This study found a significant decrease in maternal plasma sNRP1 concentration in growth-restricted pregnancies, suggesting a possible role of sNRP1 in modulating fetal growth and its potential as a biomarker for FGR.

Summary: This study found that telomere shortening is associated with intrauterine growth retardation and congenital malformations. The severity of the malformations correlates with the degree of telomere shortening. Telomere measurement in fetal samples could serve as a predictive marker of pathological development.
