Summary: The study utilizes an innovative and time-efficient uncoupled one-way FSI simulation technique to estimate the structural response of a super-tall structure, showing good correlation with experimentally observed trends and providing similar numerical accuracy. Compared to traditional two-way FSI analysis, the uncoupled one-way FSI technique requires less computational time and is more cost-effective.

Summary: We report a case of a 41-year-old female with narrow QRS tachycardia, in which both orthodromic and antidromic atrioventricular reentry tachycardia (AVRT) as well as pre-excited atrial fibrillation were demonstrated. Unexpectedly, programmed atrial stimulation confirmed the presence of a Mahaim accessory pathway (AP). Limited 3D activation maps were used to accurately describe the atrial and ventricular insertion points, confirming the existence of a single short atrio-ventricular right free wall AP. Electroanatomical 3D mapping can help clarify the diagnosis and increase success rate in cases with complex accessory pathways.

Summary: Bariatric surgery has been shown to achieve sustained weight loss and improve metabolism, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. This retrospective study found that bariatric surgery resulted in significant decreases in blood pressure, glycated hemoglobin, thyroid-stimulating hormone, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol levels. The surgery also decreased the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and significantly reduced the Framingham risk score.

Summary: This study found that regular glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes led to improvements in cognition, but decreased the enhanced functional connectivity observed at baseline. Additionally, a decrease in hippocampal connectivity was associated with increased accuracy in the Stroop task, and a decrease in posterior cingulate cortex connectivity was associated with improved performance in the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.

Summary: This study looked at the relationship between obesity and COVID-19 during the first year of the pandemic, finding that severe COVID-19 patients had higher average BMI values. A new term, COVID obesity, was proposed to define the importance of this anthropometric parameter in relation to the pandemic.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the risk factors contributing to canine obesity in a region with a high rate of human obesity. The results suggest that obese/overweight dogs in this region are mainly female, older than 6 years, and neutered, with the most important factor being overweight dog owners. There is a strong correlation between dog owners with low levels of education and obesity in their dogs.

Summary: This paper presents a one-way three-dimensional fluid-structure interaction simulation to analyze the performance of a static Savonius hydrokinetic turbine. The results indicate that the optimal rotor position for the highest coefficient of static torque is at 15 degrees. Increasing water velocity improves the turbine's static torque, while surface roughness has a negative effect on the static torque coefficient. Different materials exhibit different stress and deformation, highlighting the importance of materials selection in the early design process.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of embedded length on monopile behavior using finite-element analysis (Plaxis 3D) and validates the model with a centrifuge test. Numerical studies were conducted on a 6 m diameter monopile by varying the load amplitude and embedded length ratios. The results show that an increase in load amplitude leads to a higher rate of accumulated displacement, while the effect of embedded length is not as significant as that of load amplitude.

Summary: Cancer predisposition syndromes with thyroid cancer involve germinal pathogenic variants and have heterogeneous clinical manifestations. Understanding the genotype-phenotype correlations is crucial for managing patients and families effectively. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of the current knowledge on genes and proteins associated with cancer predisposition syndromes and the heterogeneity observed.

Summary: The study aimed to review the available evidence from meta-analyses on iodine supplementation during pregnancy in areas with mild-moderate deficiency. The findings suggest a U-shaped correlation between iodine status and maternal and neonatal outcomes, but the results of intervention trials are inconclusive. More high-quality studies are needed to further clarify this issue.

Summary: This study investigated the adverse effects of the pesticide Glyphosate on thyroid cells in vitro. The results showed that Glyphosate reduced cell viability and proliferation, and increased the production of reactive oxygen species. Additionally, Glyphosate increased the mRNA levels of thyroid-related genes. This study supports the detrimental effects of Glyphosate on cultured thyroid cells.

Summary: This retrospective observational study analyzed data from 12,891 COVID-19 patients and found that age, severe COVID-19, severe acute kidney injury (AKI), and ischemic heart disease were associated with worse mortality outcomes. The severity of AKI was associated with poorer kidney function recovery, while the use of remdesivir was associated with better recovery. In patients without chronic kidney disease, age, male sex, severe AKI, and hypertension were associated with post-AKI kidney function impairment. COVID-19-associated AKI was also linked to higher mortality and worse long-term kidney function recovery.

Summary: Industrial chemical PFAS are persistent pollutants. The effects of different PFAS on cell viability, proliferation, and secretion of CXCL8 in normal and cancer thyroid cells were evaluated. The specific cell type and target analyte showed strikingly different responses to individual PFAS. The results indicate that in vitro exposure to PFAS can modulate both mRNA and secreted protein levels of CXCL8.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of bariatric surgery on the performance of LT4. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the daily dose of LT4 before and one year after surgery, but the LT4 dose per weight increased significantly, especially in RYGB patients. The study concluded that despite weight reduction, the daily dose of LT4 remains unchanged after bariatric surgery, while the dose per weight increases.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated the characteristics of patients who dropped out from ultrasound thyroid nodule follow-up. The results showed that one-third of patients missed their follow-ups, with the main reason being the low perceived threat from the disease. Therefore, it is crucial to reinforce patients' awareness regarding their own health state.
