Summary: This study found that men infected with H. pylori were more likely to have HbA1c>7.0%, while this association was not seen in women. Additionally, both men and women infected with H. pylori had higher levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) compared to those uninfected. No significant differences were found in glucose and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels based on H. pylori infection status.

Summary: This study found that short children infected with H. pylori have lower concentrations of ghrelin and IGF-1 compared to children without infection, which may contribute to their poorer growth rate.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the differences in gustatory sensitivity, nutritional habits, circulating levels of modulators, anthropometric measures, and metabolic assays between overweight and obesity participants and lean subjects. The results showed significant reductions in taste scores and changes in biochemical factors and nutritional habits as obesity progressed.

Summary: This study analyzed the expression profile of selected miRNAs in patients with autoimmune atrophic gastritis, non-autoimmune multifocal atrophic gastritis, and healthy control subjects. The results showed that miR-21 was overexpressed in patients with gastric precancerous conditions, while miR-142 and miR-223 were underexpressed compared to healthy controls. Controlling miRNA expression could have significant implications for treating chronic autoimmune diseases and cancer progression.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the influence of H. pylori resistance on the diversity and abundance of the stomach microbiome. Bacterial DNA was extracted from biopsy samples, and microbiome community analysis was conducted. The results showed that resistant samples exhibited higher diversity and evenness than sensitive samples. The abundance of H. pylori decreased in the triple-resistant samples with increasing cohabitation of pathogenic bacteria, which may support antimicrobial resistance.

Summary: The study revealed an independent negative influence of H. pylori infection on the nutritional status of Polish teenagers, with lower average weight and BMI scores among those infected. Various factors such as living in certain districts and using collective catering facilities were also associated with lower body indices.

Summary: Eradication treatment for H. pylori leads to changes in gut microbiota composition and a decrease in ghrelin levels. Specific gut bacteria have been linked to changes in ghrelin levels, suggesting a potential role in the regulation of ghrelin.

Summary: This study investigated the association between appetite-regulating hormones, aggression, and craving during cannabis withdrawal syndrome (CWS). The results showed that patients with CWS had lower levels of ghrelin and adiponectin compared to controls at baseline, but had a significant increase in ghrelin levels after PSAP. Furthermore, there was a positive association between craving and resistin levels.

Summary: This study extensively characterizes the AgRP, POMC, and dopaminergic neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (Arc). The distinct anatomical and physiological properties of these neurons in response to appetite-regulating hormones are identified. This research highlights the importance of hypothalamic Arc neurons in appetite control.

Summary: This study investigated the presence of virulence factors in H. pylori strains isolated from Arab and Jewish populations in northern Israel. The study found a significant correlation between disease severity and patient ethnicity, as well as a correlation between CagA presence and the s1m1 genotype. Higher urease activity levels were also associated with isolates from the Jewish population.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a combination of cardiometabolic risk factors that increase the chances of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and death. In women, an insulin-resistant state associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome and increased intra-abdominal fat deposition promotes the development of MetS and increases cardiovascular risk. The hormone melatonin, which is regulated by the suprachiasmatic nucleus, plays a role in this process. The relationship between melatonin and the main features of MetS in women, including glucose metabolism, lipid disturbances, hypertension, and vascular dysfunction, is discussed in this review.

Summary: Helicobacter pylori is a common component of the human stomach microbiota, with evidence of frequent admixture in American strains leading to the development of novel American H. pylori subpopulations. Virulence genes in America show the strongest fixation, with unique evolutionary paths contributing to the high risk of gastric cancer in the region.

Summary: A study in a three-hospital academic health system in New York showed a decrease in hospital mortality rates among COVID-19 patients, with adjusted mortality dropping from 25.6% in March to 7.6% in August. The standardized mortality ratio also decreased from 1.26 in March to 0.38 in August, indicating an improving trend in patient outcomes. These findings suggest that mortality from COVID-19 may be decreasing even after adjusting for patient characteristics.
