Summary: The study found that the second-generation laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is equally effective as an endotracheal tube (ETT) in laparoscopic living liver donor hepatectomy (LLDH), with some differences in intraoperative physiological variables, but similar rates of postoperative complications.

Summary: Insertion of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) without muscle relaxant requires adequate obtundation of airway reflexes. This study compared topical lignocaine spray vs. intravenous (IV) fentanyl for LMA insertion during propofol induction. The results showed that topical lignocaine spray was as effective as IV fentanyl in terms of success rate and optimal insertion condition, but had lesser heart rate obtundation.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the insertion characteristics of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) ProSeal insertion using different techniques. The study concluded that the 90-degree rotation technique was superior to both the 180-degree rotation and the introducer technique in terms of insertion time, ease of insertion score, manipulation requirement, blood staining of PLMA, and post-op sore throat.

Summary: To address the lack of clinical evidence for airway devices on the market, the Difficult Airway Society (UK) developed ADEPT, an approach to standardize device evaluation. They assessed the LMA Protector, a second generation laryngeal mask airway, and found it suitable for clinical use with a insertion failure rate of 9.9%.

Summary: This study reviewed the use of LMA during stabilization and transport in a large series of neonates. LMA use was rare but increasing over time, and showed some heterogeneity among referring centers. LMA was safe and lifesaving in cannot intubate, cannot oxygenate situations.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of the SingularityTM Air laryngeal mask in a clinical setting and found that it had a high insertion success rate and stable oropharyngeal leak pressure. However, manual ventilation took slightly longer compared to other masks, and patients experienced temporary side effects.

Summary: The study showed that LMA (R) Protector (TM) is safe and effective in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgeries. Minor complications were observed, but no clinically diagnosed aspiration was reported. Further research is needed to determine if LMA (R) Protector (TM) is suitable for procedures in Trendelenburg position or other situations with a high risk of gastroesophageal reflux.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the effects of supraglottic airway devices (SADs) on hemodynamic response and optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD). The results showed that all three SADs preserved hemodynamic stability and ONSD changes during their placement, without causing significant elevations in ONSD that would increase intracranial pressure. Therefore, these SADs can be safely used.

Summary: The study aimed to test the feasibility and efficacy of using a combination of ProSeal laryngeal mask airway and a bronchial blocker in thoracoscopic surgery to reduce postoperative hoarseness and sore throat. The results of the randomized controlled trial showed that this combination technique did not significantly reduce hoarseness compared to the use of a double-lumen endobronchial tube.

Summary: The study aimed to examine the impact of low or high positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) and recruitment manoeuvres (RM) on intra-tidal recruitment/derecruitment and overdistension in obese patients. The results showed that higher PEEP and RM reduced intra-tidal recruitment/derecruitment, driving pressure, elastance, resistance, and mechanical power.
