Summary: The study presents a fast and reliable method for quantifying amino acids and their derivatives in urine, validated through existing guidelines and demonstrating accuracy and stability using a surrogate matrix approach. The method may serve as a valuable tool for clinical or nutritional studies involving investigation of amino acid metabolic signatures in excreted urine.

Summary: Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC) is a high-throughput separation technique widely used in pharmaceutical, pesticides, and metabolome analysis. Unified chromatography (UC), an advanced version of SFC, can further extend the applications of SFC. This study proposed the first proof-of-concept of UC/HILIC, a novel strategy to extend the current UC metabolome coverage by employing an aqueous gradient after the UC gradient, on a single packed column in a single measurement. The proposed method showed significant improvement in chromatographic performance and metabolome coverage, while maintaining precision and high throughput compared to conventional UC methods.

Summary: A sensitive and rapid methodology was developed for concurrent analysis of bioactive peptides (BAPs) and amino acids (AAs) in collagen hydrolysates (CHs) after digestion. Capillary electrophoresis and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry were used to accurately quantify the peptides and AAs in the digests, providing insights into the bioactive components of CHs.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in lipid composition of Escherichia coli under different environmental conditions, particularly during growth phases and under stress. The researchers found that the cyclopropanation of fatty acyl chains plays a key role in lipid diversity, with a bias towards shorter chains. Additionally, the presence of ampicillin and chloramphenicol leads to an increase in saturated fatty acyl chains, affecting membrane properties and bacterial stress tolerance.

Summary: Evaluation of melatonin production through nail analysis shows potential for estimating global melatonin production, with correlation between nail melatonin content and age observed. Fingernails are preferred over toenails for analysis, and melatonin concentrations in nails display a rapid rise and subsequent return to baseline levels post-administration.

Summary: Gastrointestinal symptoms are common in critically ill COVID-19 patients. Assessing intestinal damage in unconscious or sedated ICU patients is challenging. This study reveals that the levels of I-FABP, a biomarker for enterocyte damage, are significantly higher in COVID-19 patients who eventually died, and it can be a predictor of poor outcome.

Summary: In this study, the role of amino acids in the formation of volatile substances during the drying process of Penaeus vannamei was investigated. The results showed that the type and content of volatile components significantly increased in samples with moisture contents between 30% and 5%, and basic amino acids (Arg, Lys, and His) had a strong correlation with the formation of pyrazines.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify specific marker substances in the aroma of truffles. The aroma profile of different truffle species was analyzed using gas chromatography mass spectrometry. The results suggest that truffle dogs mainly perceive truffle aroma through dimethyl sulfide and dimethyl disulfide.

Summary: Diabetes is a major risk factor for kidney disease, with diabetic nephropathy occurring in almost half of all diabetic patients. Metabolism has been found to play a crucial role in determining cell fate and repair. Mass spectrometry imaging was used to identify specific metabolic dysregulation in different tissues in order to understand the early metabolic changes in renal cell types caused by diabetes.

Summary: Mucosal healing (MH) is crucial for maintaining gut health and preventing inflammatory diseases. However, disturbances in intestinal homeostasis can lead to autoimmune diseases like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), where the body's healing processes are impaired. Currently, there is a lack of effective therapies that can restore MH due to the complexity of the disease and healing processes. Developing therapeutics that enhance the body's healing response may offer potential strategies for treating IBD and promoting mucosal healing.

Summary: Drying is an important factor in the formation of green tea flavor. By adjusting drying temperature, green tea with different aromas can be obtained. Volatile and non-volatile compounds contribute differently to the different aromas, and these compounds are related to the taste characteristics of the tea.
