Summary: Lipase has been successfully encapsulated into ZIF-8 for biodiesel production. The encapsulated lipase showed higher stability compared to the adsorbed one. The highest yield was achieved at specific conditions, but increased methanol ratio and temperature resulted in decreased yield. Diffusion of substrate inside the crystal was limited, affecting the activity of encapsulated lipase.

Summary: A novel treatment involving enzymatic hydrolysis using an acidic xylanase coupled with ultrasound was performed to improve the xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS) yield from corncob bran. Mechanism studies indicated that ultrasonic pretreatment could reduce the beta-fold content and increase the random coil content, promoting the production of XOS. The results suggest that ultrasound can alter the structure and size of the substrate, facilitating the enzymatic reaction and enhancing the production of XOS.

Summary: A carbon cloth-assisted two-step self-template method was used to synthesize hollow zeolitic imidazolate framework-8, which transformed into a brittle starlike ZnO-N co-doped nano carbon web after annealing and showed promise as a stable lithium metal anode. The lithiophilic spots of ZnO and N species enabled a stable Li plating/stripping process with high current density and capacity, while the brittle star-like h-ZNCC-Li anode exhibited low-voltage hysteresis.

Summary: This study proposes an innovative approach to synthesize dual-atomic-site alloy (DASA) through two-step pyrolysis, avoiding the challenges of sintering and alloying on metal hosts. The approach is demonstrated by synthesizing Ir1Ni1@Co/N-C DASA, which exhibits outstanding bifunctional oxygen reduction/evolution reaction (ORR/OER) performance in both acidic and alkaline media. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations further reveal the regulation of adsorption-free energies of intermediates by Ir1 and Ni1 on Co.

Summary: The study found that the structure of zeolite imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) may decompose in the presence of water during the CO2 capture process, but can be preserved by adding 2-methylimidazole. Furthermore, suspending ZIF-8 in specific alkaline solutions can help maintain its topological structure, with the impact on the structure depending on the specific alkaline solution used.

Summary: Combining metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with one-dimensional (1D) carbon nanofibers is an effective approach to improve microwave absorption performance. In this study, C/zinc oxide (ZnO) nanofiber composites were synthesized, showing outstanding microwave absorption performance due to the unique porous structure and heterointerfaces formed between C and ZnO. The minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of -58 dB at 7.5 GHz and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 6.5 GHz were achieved, demonstrating the potential of this innovative methodology for developing highly efficient microwave absorbing materials.

Summary: In this study, an ionic covalent organic framework (iCOF) surface grafting monolithic sorbent was prepared for in-tube solid-phase microextraction (SPME) of aristolochic acids (AAs) in various samples. The density of quaternary ammonium ions in the iCOF was modulated for enhanced adsorption of AAs. The iCOF surface grafting monolithic sorbent was confirmed by different means. Several operating conditions were optimized to develop the online in-tube SPME-HPLC method, which showed good linearity, low limits of detection, and high recoveries for AAs in serum samples. This study presents a feasible approach for the application of COF-based monolithic sorbents in sample preparation.

Summary: A chitosan-alginate sponge with multiple cross-linking networks was developed for adsorption and enrichment of anionic dyes from food samples. The sponge showed better three-dimensional network structure, mechanical behavior, and stability compared to pure chitosan and alginate sponges. The adsorption performance and selectivity of the sponge were systematically studied, and it maintained high adsorption capacity and selectivity for anionic dyes. The sponge also showed satisfactory reusability and was successfully combined with high-performance liquid chromatography for the enrichment and detection of anionic dyes in candy and cocktail samples.
