Summary: Nitrogen-fixing organisms perform dinitrogen reduction to ammonia at an Fe-M (M = Mo, Fe, or V) cofactor (FeMco) of nitrogenase. FeMco displays eight metal centers bridged by sulfides and a carbide having the MFe7S8C cluster composition. The role of the carbide ligand, a unique motif in protein active sites, remains poorly understood.

Summary: This study explored the development of phosphor materials with tunable emission characteristics based on Eu3+ and Tb3+ co-dopants in Ca-10(PO4)(6)F-2 host. It was found that the selective distribution of Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions at specific sites significantly impacts the emission characteristics and lifetime values.

Summary: This study determined the spatial variability of nitrogen balances on heterogeneous arable fields in southern Germany using digital methods, aiming to precisely localize N surplus and nitrogen loss potentials through a high spatial resolution. The findings showed that digital technologies are suitable for site-specific N surplus calculation but further improvement in accuracy is needed for precise management decisions, enabling the identification of N loss potentials at a sub field scale.

Summary: The precipitation in a high-strength low-alloy steel with V and Nb additions during coiling at 500 degrees C was investigated using advanced characterization techniques. Nano precipitates preferentially formed around dislocations and grain/sub-grain boundaries associated with bainite. Precipitates were also observed around cementite and interphase clusters were found associated with ferrite. The co-existence of different kinds of precipitates was revealed, and it was found that the precipitation of microalloy particles near cementite could reduce the precipitation hardening contribution.

Summary: Assemblies of magnetite nanoparticles for magnetic hyperthermia were obtained by ultrasonic mechanocavitation in a viscous liquid. These magnetite nanoparticles retained the perfect crystal structure of the original coarse-grained magnetite powder, with sizes ranging from 0.2-8 μm, and exhibited a high saturation magnetization comparable to pure magnetite. The specific absorption rate (SAR) of the assemblies in an alternating magnetic field showed a significant dependence on nanoparticle concentration and the shape of particle macroaggregates. The SAR of elongated clusters of particles oriented parallel to the action of the magnetic field was found to be 4 times higher than that of quasi-spherical clusters. The SAR of elongated clusters also showed a sharp dependence on the direction of the magnetic field with respect to the cluster orientation axis, as revealed by numerical simulations based on the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz equation.

Summary: A facile and sustainable approach for the synthesis of Fe-SA@NC-20A catalyst has been established, which exhibits better performance in the chemoselective hydrogenation of nitroarenes with broad substrate scope. The catalyst shows excellent stability, with no significant activity degradation observed even after recycling for 10 times or storing in air for 2 months.

Summary: The study successfully constructed Fe-NG/MCNS composite, in which Fe-NG as a co-catalyst promoted the migration of photogenerated electrons on the surface of MCNS nanosheets with the optimal mass ratio at about 0.15 wt.%. The composite exhibited good photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation for indissoluble antibiotics, endocrine disruptors, and dyes as target pollutants.

Summary: Urban waterlogging seriously threatens urban sustainable development and human life. This study investigated the effects of landscape elements on urban waterlogging, focusing on their spatial heterogeneity effects. By combining machine learning and geographical detector model, the study examined the dominant driving forces and their spatial distribution of waterlogging, and found that the dominant factors varied across different subgroups. The study also highlighted the importance of considering the combined effects of multiple factors in waterlogging mitigation strategies.
