A Valence-Bond-Based Multiconfigurational Density Functional Theory: The λ-DFVB Method Revisited

Substituent Effect and Its Halogen-Atom Dependence of Halogen Bonding Viewed through Electron Density Changes

Summary: Analyzing the electron density differences for variously substituted halobenzenes reveals the control of halogen-bonding ability and strength by the substituent effect and the dependence on the halogen atom. The anisotropy of the electron distribution around the halogen atom is mainly determined by the halogen atom itself, while the substituent effect significantly modulates the partial charge on the halogen atom, enhancing the electrostatic potential.

Visualization of Surface Charge Carrier Diffusion Lengths in Different Perovskite Crystal Orientations Using 4D Electron Imaging

Summary: Understanding charge carrier dynamics at the nanometer and femtosecond scales is crucial for optimizing light-conversion devices. The authors used ultrafast scanning electron microscopy (USEM) to investigate the effect of surface orientations and termination on charge carriers in MAPbI(3) perovskite single crystals. Results showed facet-dependent diffusion, surface trap density, surface work function, and carrier concentration. Optimization of perovskite surfaces based on these findings could lead to more efficient and stable solar-cell devices.

Charge-Transfer Steps in Density Functional Theory from the Perspective of the Exact Electron Factorization

Summary: When a molecule dissociates, the Kohn-Sham (KS) and Pauli potentials form step structures, critical for describing dissociation and charge-transfer processes. The exact electron factorization (EEF) provides an explanation for these steps, showing they are a result of spatial electron entanglement and charge transfer. Additionally, two methods to reproduce the potentials during dissociation are proposed, offering insights into the encoding of many-electron effects in a one-electron theory.

Strength of the [Z-I•••Hal]- and [Z-Hal•••I]- Halogen Bonds: Electron Density Properties and Halogen Bond Length as Estimators of Interaction Energy

The changes in interatomic distance and atomic electronegativity induced by spin-orbit coupling are quantified and demonstrated across the periodic table of elements.

Investigating the structure of the product of graphene oxide reaction with folic acid and chitosan: density functional theory calculations

Summary: In this study, density functional theory was used to investigate the adsorption of Folic acid on a carrier made from graphene oxide/chitosan composite. The results showed that in the GO-CS structure, two chitosan molecules were connected to the GO molecule on opposite sides with maximum distance between them. The interaction through hydrogen bonds between molecules was determined, providing insights into the stability of the formed pairs.
