Summary: Biodiesel fuels are comprised of a mixture of different fatty acid esters, which have significant effects on combustion and storage. This study reviews the available experimental data on density and viscosity of fatty acid methyl, ethyl, and butyl esters and identifies gaps in the literature. The research includes 16 different esters from three ester families and provides an overview of generalized models for describing density and viscosity at elevated pressures.

Summary: In this study, the speed of sound and density values of the methyl caprate + methyl oleate binary system were reported over a wide range of pressures and temperatures. The results were used to calculate the speed of sound molecular weight product and molecular compressibility. The aim of the study was to determine the best combining rule for predicting the speed of sound of mixtures.

Summary: This paper investigated the Lipozyme 435-catalyzed synthesis of xylose oleate in MEK, studying the effects of substrate ratios, temperature, and time on esterification rates. Results showed that an excess of oleic acid was favorable for the reaction, and the highest Lipozyme 435 activities occurred between 55 and 70 degrees C. The study also found that the predicted kinetic model fitted well with experimental data and there was no evidence of inhibitions.

Summary: Understanding the thermophysical properties of biodiesels, especially the speed of sound, is crucial for optimizing injection and combustion processes in diesel engines. This study proposes a predictive method for estimating the speed of sound in biodiesel based on the fatty acid alkyl ester profile. A group contribution method was developed to predict the speed of sound in fatty acid alkyl ester compounds, and a correlation was established to relate the speed of sound to pressure and temperature for fatty acid methyl and ethyl ester components. The pure fatty acid alkyl ester correlations were extended to biodiesel fuels using a combination rule.

Summary: The study developed prediction models for density and viscosity of fatty acid esters based on their molecular structure, finding that the properties are influenced by temperature, pressure, and molecular structure. Different models were proposed for various types of fatty acid esters with low average absolute relative deviations.

Summary: This study investigates the density and speed of sound of two fatty acid methyl esters and calculates other key thermodynamic properties based on the measured values. The research also develops correlation models for these properties. The findings are significant for the research and application of biodiesel fuel.

Summary: In this study, the speeds of sound in binary liquid mixtures of methyl oleate and either n-hexane or n-decane were measured at temperature T = 303.15 K and pressures ranging from 0.1 MPa to 70 MPa. The excess speed of sound for these mixtures was calculated using the obtained data. Additionally, the speed of sound molecular weight product, raised to a constant power, was calculated and represented as a function of molar percentage. This was done to find a simple combining rule for representing the speed of sound in mixtures of n-alkanes and fatty acid alkyl esters.

Summary: This study investigates the high-pressure thermophysical properties of butyl-based fatty acid esters in order to optimize the spray characteristics in diesel injection systems. Measurements of speed of sound, density, isobaric heat capacity, viscosity, and surface tension were conducted under different temperatures and pressures. The results show that the differences between density and isentropic compressibility of the esters can be compensated by adjusting temperature and/or pressure. Comparisons with other fuels suggest that butyl-based fatty acid esters have potential as fuel additives in biodiesel.

Summary: The electrochemical fluorination of various (arylthio)methyl carboxylates in aprotic organic solvents containing poly(HF) salts provided O-fluoromethyl carboxylates in good to moderate yield. Additionally, a cyclic analogue, a gamma-phenylthio-gamma-butyrolactone derivative, was successfully fluorinated under ultrasonication to give the corresponding 4-fluorinated product in moderate yield.

Summary: This study measured and compared the bulk modulus and speed of sound of different jet fuels, revealing that petroleum-based jet fuels have lower bulk modulus compared to petroleum-based diesel fuel, while alternative jet fuels have even lower bulk modulus. This difference may result in unintended retardation of actual fuel injection timing when using jet fuels in compression-ignition engines without adjusting the nominal fuel injection timing.

Summary: Polyethylene, a widely used plastic, shows varied properties depending on factors like molecular weight and crystallinity. This study experimentally determined the sound speeds and elastic properties of different polyethylene materials, finding that they increase with pressure. The zero pressure orthorhombic phase was observed to transform to monoclinic at low pressures of about 0.1 GPa.

Summary: The aim of this study was to synthesize fatty acid methyl esters from waste beef tallow using one-step supercritical methanol transesterification without pre-treatment. Animal waste samples were collected from local markets and experiments were conducted in a batch reactor made of Inconel 625 alloy. Various parameters such as methanol:waste beef tallow molar ratio, temperature, and pressure were investigated to obtain the fatty acid methyl esters, which were then characterized and the overall yield was calculated.
