Summary: This study investigates the effect of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) on the transcriptome of the Pacific oyster Crassostera gigas. A total of 586 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, with ATRA affecting the development, metabolism, reproduction, and immunity of C. gigas. Several tyrosinase genes and Tyr-related genes were upregulated by ATRA, and the DNA-binding activity of the RA receptors CgRAR and CgRXR, as well as their interaction with RAREs in the Tyr-2 promoter, were confirmed.

Summary: Through high-throughput RNA sequencing analysis and immunostaining, researchers found deregulated expression of genes related to retinoic acid signaling in AVM nidus and its associated astrocytes. This abnormal expression includes ALDH1A2, a key enzyme in retinoic acid signaling, and CYR61, a regulator of angiogenesis. Abnormal astrocytes associated with AVM nidus were also observed, suggesting a potential trigger for the development of cerebral AVM.

Summary: The prostate is a male reproductive gland that secretes prostatic fluid to enhance male fertility. This study unravels the signaling events that drive the formation and development of prostate buds from the urogenital epithelium (UGE), independent of the surrounding mesenchyme. It shows that FGF10 and canonical WNT signaling play crucial roles in initiating and enhancing prostate budding, while retinoic acid is essential for the upregulation of prostate-specific genes. Moreover, it demonstrates that under optimized conditions, female UGE can be directed towards a prostatic fate, and male UGE-derived prostate buds can differentiate into mature prostate epithelium after transplantation.

Summary: Retinoic acid (RA) is crucial for embryonic and postnatal development as well as adult functions, and alterations in RA levels can lead to birth defects. CRABP-I plays a significant role in sequestering and regulating the accumulation of RA in the cytoplasm. The expression patterns of CRABP-I in the developing chick inner ear suggest its involvement in the specification of the otic anlagen and the final differentiation of sensory elements.

Summary: This study compared the expression of key markers in differentiated and non-differentiated SH-SY5Y cells, and explored the role of somatostatin (SST) in regulating neurotransmitter distribution and expression. The results suggest the potential therapeutic implication of SST in neurodegeneration.

Summary: This study investigates the regulatory mechanism of FGF10 on ER stress in PM-induced lung injury. The findings show that FGF10 treatment attenuates PM-induced lung injury and reverses the levels of ER stress proteins. Additionally, FGF10 promotes cell proliferation and restrains the secretion of inflammatory cytokines.

Summary: SEs mediate high transcription levels by recruiting transcription complexes and generating eRNAs. The LCR is able to recruit transcription complexes independently from linked genes, and HS2 initiates bidirectional transcription. Integrator complex plays a role in terminating eRNA transcription and interacts downstream of LCR HS2, affecting transcription of beta-globin genes.

Summary: This study conducted comprehensive bioinformatics analyses and experimental verifications to explore the regulatory mechanism of rs10516526 and GSTCD in COPD. The results showed that low expression of GSTCD was associated with COPD, and the transcription factors C-Jun and CREB1 were found to be essential for the regulation of GSTCD by specific genetic signals. Moreover, certain mutated forms of these signals showed a stronger binding ability to the transcription factors, potentially leading to allele-specific regulation and reduced susceptibility to COPD.

Summary: All-trans retinoic acid plays a role in embryogenesis and also acts as a teratogen. The deregulation of cytosolic aldehyde dehydrogenases in various human cancers affects the synthesis of all-trans retinoic acid. Inhibiting these enzymes reduces cancer cell proliferation, induces apoptosis, and enhances chemotherapeutic sensitivity. RAR gamma is an oncogene in several types of cancer, and inhibiting its action leads to cancer cell death. Targeting the retinoic acid pathway shows promise in eliminating cancer stem cells.

Summary: In Xenopus embryos, Zic1 regulates PPR formation by activating RA production and promoting the expression of Cyp26c1 and Pitx2c to maintain low levels of RA in the vicinity of PPR. Disruption of these genes results in defective cranial placodes, suggesting their crucial roles in PPR specification.

Summary: L. intestinalis has a protective effect against ulcerative colitis by modulating the interaction between Th17 cells and gut epithelial cells. It inhibits Th17 cell differentiation by reducing the production of C/EBPA-driven SAA1 and SAA2, thus attenuating colitis progression.
