Summary: Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive tumor with high heterogeneity. The accumulation of fatty acid metabolites is associated with low survival rates in patients with high-grade gliomas. The diversity of brain lipids, especially polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and the involvement of FA transport proteins and FA translocases are crucial for PUFAs transportation through the blood-brain barrier and delivery to brain cells. Among them, the CD36 FA translocase plays a role in the uptake of long-chain FAs and oxidized lipoproteins. Furthermore, the interaction between CD36 and thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) has an important role in glioma cell invasion and angiogenesis in GBM. The interconnection and interrelationship between FA, CD36, CD47, and their ligand TSP-1 have been highlighted in recent research to exert a cumulative effect on the modulation of the GBM molecular network.

Summary: Transmission electron microscopy has historically played a vital role in virology research, providing unique insights into virus function. Cryo-electron microscopy has matured in the past decade, allowing us to study virus structures at the atomic level and understand their interactions with host cells, drugs, and antibodies. The spread of SARS-CoV-2 has highlighted the crucial importance of cryo-EM, with its ability to reveal the structure and function of viral proteins in unprecedented detail.

Summary: Stem cell-derived EV therapies, especially EVs (ADSCs), led to regression of structural and functional changes in the vascular wall and key orchestrator expression in atherosclerosis-induced endothelial dysfunction. Transfection of EVs with Smad2/3siRNA amplified the ability of EVs (ADSCs) or EVs (MSCs) to regress the inflammation-mediated atherosclerotic process.

Summary: Fatty acids can induce inflammation in astrocytes, and this inflammatory response can be prevented by the inhibitor SSO. Low concentrations of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids can induce the secretion of IL-8 protein in astrocytes, and this effect can be specifically inhibited by SSO pre-treatment.

Summary: COVID-19 mRNA vaccines effectively reduce the incidence of severe disease, hospitalization, and death. This study used qPCR to track synthetic mRNA in the blood after BNT162b2 vaccination and found that the mRNA persists in the systemic circulation for at least 2 weeks. Transmission electron microscopy revealed morphological changes indicative of lipid nanoparticle uptake, but only a small fraction of leukemic cells showed spike-like structures on the cell surface, suggesting reduced expression levels for these specific phenotypes.

Summary: This study investigated the ultrastructure of the temporal muscle in rats. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the muscle had a pennate sarcomere structure, where adjacent sarcomeres converged to the same Z-disc with the triad separating them. Moreover, the study identified bipennate and tripennate morphologies, where sarcomeres from different Z-discs converged to the same Z-disc at the opposite ends. These findings support recent evidence of sarcomere branching in mice.

Summary: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive and lethal form of cancer. This study found 32 dysregulated miRNAs in PDAC tumoral tissues, with 19 upregulated and 13 downregulated. Additionally, miR-15b-5p and miR-20b-5p were identified as potential markers for hepatic metastasis in PDAC patients.

Summary: Accidental exposure to blood or other biological fluids is common in dentistry, and post-exposure management is crucial for preventing the transmission of blood-borne pathogens. This narrative review comprehensively reviews the risk assessment process for each pathogen, aiming to provide a better understanding of the transmission risk and individualized post-exposure management.
