Summary: This study presents a catalytic and highly enantioselective ring-opening reaction of epoxides, utilizing newly designed chiral bipyridine ligands. A Sc-complex with a newly developed bipyridine ligand demonstrated high reactivity and stereocontrol in the desymmetrization of meso-epoxides with various alcohols, achieving enantioenriched 1,2-alkoxyalcohols with high e.r. values. Additionally, attempted ring-opening of meso-epoxides with anilines showed lower enantioselectivity, dependent on the electronic effect of substituents on the aromatic ring.

Summary: Pillararenes, a relatively young class of supramolecular macrocycles, have significant value in chiral science and supramolecular chemistry. They possess planar chirality, but synthesizing stable and resolvable enantiomers remains a challenge due to the easy rotation of the phenylene group. Researchers have proposed construction methods for resolvable chiral pillararenes and demonstrated their wide applications in various fields.

Summary: The construction of macromolecular hosts capable of threading chiral guests in a stereoselective manner is a challenge. The asymmetric synthesis of two enantiomeric C-2-symmetric porphyrin macrocyclic hosts has been described, showing kinetic selectivity for different viologen guests. The presence or absence of chiral termini in the viologen guests affects the kinetic selectivity of the threading process onto the hosts.

Summary: Ferric bis-alkynyl complexes bearing redox-active substituents were characterized and the mixed valent properties of the singly oxidized species were investigated. The nature of the supporting macrocyclic ligand strongly influenced the degree of valence delocalization through the metal center. A tetraimine macrocycle enhanced valence delocalization, which was related to the altered ground state of the unoxidized complexes. The study provides insights into macrocyclic ligand-dependent valence delocalization and the role of π-acidity in the electronic structure of the complexes.
