Summary: Tumor-to-tumor metastasis is a rare but important condition, especially in patients with a history of renal cell carcinoma. This case report highlights the presence of a thyroid nodule consistent with tumor-to-tumor metastasis from RCC into papillary thyroid carcinoma. Therefore, clinicians should remain vigilant when encountering newly discovered thyroid nodules in patients with a history of RCC.

Summary: Esophageal cancer can metastasize to distant sites, leading to poor prognosis. Intestinal metastasis is extremely rare with atypical clinical presentations. We present a case of rectal metastasis after surgery for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The patient achieved good short-term efficacy with adjuvant chemoradiotherapy and carrelizumab immunotherapy, and is currently in tumor-free survival. This case report aims to deepen our understanding of rare metastasis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and promote the use of local radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy to improve survival.

Summary: Breast-to-brain metastatic cells can interact with surrounding cells to create a favorable environment for tumor growth. Co-delivering therapeutic siRNA and paclitaxel to the metastasis site and normalizing the microenvironment can effectively treat breast-to-brain metastasis.

Summary: In this study, Sanchez-Aguilera et al. utilized in vivo electrocorticography and machine learning to investigate the effects of brain metastases on neural circuit dynamics. They found that the electrophysiological profile could predict the presence and type of brain metastasis.

Summary: The study suggests that the phenomenon of tumor spread through air spaces (STAS) is an in vivo process rather than an artifact of tissue processing in patients undergoing limited resection (LR) for non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). It indicates that occult STAS tumor cells can be present in the remaining lung tissue after LR, potentially contributing to locoregional recurrence. This observation supports the concept that STAS plays a role in locoregional recurrence following LR.

Summary: Metastasis refers to the spread of a tumor from its original site to other parts of the body. This study focused on brain metastasis and used an in vitro model to investigate the ability of breast and lung tumor cells to cross the blood-brain barrier, as well as the expression of adhesion molecules. The study also found that vesicles released by tumor cells can induce cell death in endothelial cells.

Summary: Surgery or whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) can improve survival in patients with brain metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of multi-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in these patients. The results showed that TKIs were associated with better survival outcomes without increasing the risk of intracranial bleeding.

Summary: The study retrospectively reviewed T1 cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic LN sampling after endoscopic resection and found that using the extended LLS technique increased the detection rate of LN. Adverse events were rare, but some patients had LN metastases requiring surgery.

Summary: Approximately 20% of breast cancers overexpress HER2, which has historically been associated with a worse prognosis. However, the availability of different anti-HER2 compounds has improved outcomes for HER2-positive breast cancer. Tucatinib, an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has recently been approved for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, providing evidence of improved overall survival in patients with brain metastases.
