Summary: This study compared the surgical and oncologic outcomes of three types of sarcomas in the pelvis and sacrum. The results showed that patients with radiation-associated sarcomas had worse perioperative mortality rates and 5-year disease-specific survival rates compared to those with primary sarcomas.

Summary: Sarcomas are a diverse group of malignant tumors that arise from mesenchymal tissue and account for 1% of adult malignancies. Surgical excision and conventional chemotherapy are the mainstay of treatment for local and advanced disease, respectively. Immunotherapy has shown promise in multiple cancers, but its efficacy in sarcomas remains uncertain. Clinical trials and studies are ongoing to determine the role of immunotherapy in specific sarcoma subtypes.

Summary: The management of locally advanced and unresectable pelvic bone sarcomas is a challenging task that requires individualized treatment options based on multidisciplinary discussions. Currently, there is a lack of comprehensive and standardized guidelines for the optimal treatment of these patients. Although there are promising novel therapeutic approaches, further clinical evidence is needed to establish the role of each treatment option.

Summary: The study found that in patients with non-infiltrative soft-tissue sarcomas, a surgical margin width greater than 5 mm minimizes the risk of local failure, while a negative margin is essential for optimizing local control. Summary: Musculoskeletal sarcomas are rare heterogeneous malignancies of mesenchymal origin, with two distinct subtypes, bone and soft tissue sarcomas. The EPH/ephrin signaling pathway plays an important role in sarcoma progression, with significant interactions with various normal and abnormal cascades. EPHs and ephrins have potential as candidates for diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy against bone and soft tissue sarcomas.

Summary: Alveolar soft part sarcoma is a rare soft tissue tumor that primarily affects the deep soft tissue of the lower extremities. Primary bone involvement is extremely rare in this type of tumor. This study collected data from 8 patients and found that alveolar soft part sarcoma exhibits an aggressive behavior and is resistant to conventional chemotherapy. A definitive diagnosis of alveolar soft part sarcoma can be achieved through the combined analysis of clinical, radiologic, histomorphologic and immunohistochemical features.

Summary: Addressing the disparities in cancer care access in India requires infrastructure improvement, training of oncology workforce, and reduction of out-of-pocket expenses. However, achieving uniform infrastructure and expertise across the country is unlikely even with significant investments. Summary: While personnel protective equipment (PPE) is recommended during surgery, especially in high-prevalence regions like COVID-19 negative patients, its use is not universal due to perceived discomfort, stress, and fatigue. A study conducted among cancer surgeons during the pandemic found that N-95 masks and face shields led to significant discomfort, with fogging, dry mouth, and breathing difficulties contributing to stress, and headache and breathing difficulties contributing to fatigue the most. Despite routine use of PPE, surgeons experienced varying degrees of discomfort, particularly with N-95 masks and eye protection.
