Summary: The study found that highly metastatic prostate cancer cells show increased sensitivity to Docetaxel after radiotherapy failure and suggests immediate chemotherapy after radiotherapy failure may benefit certain patients. Furthermore, using a higher dose per fraction for radiotherapy in castration-resistant prostate cancer cells was not successful, but the results may vary between different cell lines.

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the prevalence of brain metastases in PCa patients and reported the clinical features and oncological outcomes of different treatment modalities. New anti-HER2 agents show effectiveness in treating brain metastases. Current research efforts aim to clarify the impact of existing treatments and develop new drugs and innovative approaches.

Therapeutic effectiveness and safety of sequential ICIs with radiotherapy for symptomatic brain and bone metastases in NSCLC patients

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of local radiotherapy followed by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in driver gene-negative non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with symptomatic local metastasis in the brain and bone. The results showed that sequential ICIs with local radiotherapy significantly improved both tumor response and symptom control in these patients.

This systematic review with meta-analysis aims to provide a quantitative synthesis of the results of studies comparing the efficacy and safety of surgery and RS for localized metastatic brain disease. Frequency of metastases within the hypothalamic-pituitary area and the associated high-risk factors in patients with brain metastases

It was found that the frequency of brain metastasis in the HT-P area is extremely low. The risk of brain metastases in the hypothalamus is correlated with their number.

Summary: This study compared the plan quality metrics of manual forward planning (MFP) and Elekta Fast Inverse Planning (FIP) for stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in patients treated with Gamma Knife (R). The results showed that FIP plans demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in target coverage, conformity index, and gradient index compared to MFP plans, while there was no significant difference in beam-on time and delivery parameters between the two planning methods.

Summary: This study describes a 5-fraction ablative SMART planning approach for pancreatic cancer that is robust and stable during on-table adaption, due to gradients controlled by a GI PRV technique and the use of rings. These findings are noteworthy given that daily interfraction anatomic GI OAR differences are routine, thus necessitating on-table adaptation. This work supports feasibility towards utilizing a patient-independent, template on-table adaptive approach.

Summary: The discipline of radiation oncology is faced with challenges in terms of accessibility and affordability, particularly in low-income and low-middle-income countries. The distribution of radiation therapy machines and brachytherapy facilities is unequal, while there is also a deficit in simulators, radiation oncologists, and medical physicists. Measures to address these challenges include adopting indigenous technology, promoting public-private partnerships, relaxing custom duties, enhancing human resources training, and conducting innovative research.
