Summary: This study investigates the application of the polylactic acid-glycolic acid copolymer (PLGA) as a carrier for thifluzamide in fungicide applications. Thifluzamide PLGA microspheres were prepared and shown to have good slow-release performance and fungicidal activity against Rhizoctonia solani. The negative effects of thifluzamide on plant growth were mitigated when it was encapsulated in PLGA microspheres.

Summary: This systematic review evaluates the doses of simvastatin used in preclinical studies and their impact on bone regeneration. The results suggest that lower doses of simvastatin can consistently promote bone formation, but there is no significant correlation between the relative bone gain and the doses of simvastatin. However, the interpretation of these findings should consider factors such as scaffold heterogeneity, defect anatomy, observation period, and evaluation method.

Summary: A multifunctional photothermal scaffold was developed in this study, which could accelerate bone regeneration and combat bacterial infection. The scaffold promoted osteogenic differentiation through BMP-2 release and upregulation of heat shock protein expression mediated by near-infrared light. Additionally, black phosphorus nanosheets exhibited antibacterial effects under the mediation of near-infrared light, which was beneficial for preventing bacterial infections.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the role of neurotrophins in Acanthamoeba spp. infections in the brain. The results suggest that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) may have neuroprotective effects in immunocompetent hosts, while nerve growth factor (NGF) may have a pro-inflammatory effect in immunosuppressed hosts during acanthamoebiasis.

Summary: In this study, the presence of neurotrophic factors in the taste bud cells of zebrafish is demonstrated. These neurotrophins play an important role in taste bud function and share similarities with those found in mammals. This study further confirms the significance of the zebrafish model in translational research.

Summary: Peripheral nerve injuries are a common cause of disabilities, and treatment with long nerve gap autografts is currently considered the best method. However, due to limited availability and potential issues at the donor site, research is focusing on developing regenerative strategies using artificial nerve guidance conduits (NGCs). These NGCs can be optimized through various methods to enhance nerve regeneration, and recent advancements in using different types of nanoparticles to introduce growth factors to NGCs are discussed in depth.

Summary: The study investigates novel nerve guidance conduits with aligned microchannel porosity delivering sustained-release of neurogenic 4-aminopyridine for peripheral nerve regeneration. Results show equivalency with autograft controls in terms of functional recovery, myelin development, and histological assessments. The aligned microchannel architecture of the conduit guides axons and the sustained release of 4-AP increases nerve conduction.

Summary: This study demonstrates that IBC exerts neuroprotective effects on cortical neurons by reducing oxidative stress and improving mitochondrial function, leading to increased cell survival rates. The mechanisms involve the upregulation of neurotrophic factors and the modulation of synaptic vesicle proteins, ultimately facilitating neuronal survival.

Summary: This study fabricated aligned conductive scaffolds composed of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via electrospinning and loaded brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) onto the scaffolds. The results showed that the scaffolds effectively promoted peripheral nerve regeneration both in vitro and in vivo, indicating their potential for nerve restoration.

Summary: FK1706 is a novel non-immunosuppressive immunophilin ligand with neurotrophic activity that promotes nerve regeneration after neurorrhaphy through promoting the binding of HSP90 and Raf-1, continuing to activate Raf-1, and affecting key proteins in the Ras/Raf/MAPK/ERK signaling pathway related to the neurotrophic effects of NGF to promote the proliferation and neurite regrowth of nerve cells in both in vivo and in vitro models.
