Summary: The initial growth rate of a yeast strain is a key parameter in the production of fermented beverages. This study compared volatile profiles at different growth rates using chemostats, batch and fed-batch cultures, and identified the aroma compounds affected by different feeding profiles and nutrient limitations. The study revealed the correlation between yeast growth, esters, and higher alcohols production and showcased the potential of using feeding profiles to manipulate aroma in the craft beverage industry.

Summary: A study has established a photoautotrophic hydrogen production system based on thin layer cultures, resulting in a three-fold increase in hydrogen production compared to bulk cultures. Mutants such as L159I-N230Y and pgrl1 showed increased hydrogen production, with pgr5 mutant generating 250% more hydrogen. The mutants showed remarkable stability in photosynthetic apparatus and in vitro HydA activity.

Summary: The sperm selection stage is crucial for the success of assisted reproductive technologies. Microfluidic platforms show promising results in sperm selection. This study investigates the motility parameters of sperm cells in contact with surface-modified glass substrates using nanodiamond particles. The results demonstrate significantly improved sperm swimming velocities and decreased reactive oxygen species production.

Summary: The latitudinal gradients of atmospheric nitrate (NO3-) sources and production in the marine boundary layer of the Northern Hemisphere were investigated using atmospheric samples collected during the 2017 and 2018 Chinese Arctic Expedition cruises. The concentration and isotopic composition of atmospheric NO3- showed significant variations along different latitudes. The study found that continental sources dominated atmospheric NO3- in both mid- and high-latitudes, while oceanic RONO2 emissions accounted for a substantial portion of the NO3- budget in mid-latitudes. The different isotopic compositions of NO3- in different latitudes suggest distinct main production pathways.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation of N-Carbamylglutamate (NCG) on production performance, egg quality, and uterine gene expression in layers. The results showed that supplementation of 0.08% NCG improved production performance and egg quality in layers by regulating uterine function.

Summary: The application of the (Ta,Mo)(x)(O,S)(y) atomic gradient passivation layer leads to promising photocurrent and onset potential for CuInS2-based photocathodes, without the need for Pt cocatalysts. The improved electron transient time and boosted electrocatalytic activity contribute to the excellent photoelectrochemical performance of the photoelectrode.

Summary: The permeability of overlying and underlying strata has little effect on gas production rates in the early stage of hydrate production; in long-term production, hydrate deposits with lower permeability in overlying and underlying strata result in higher cumulative gas production and gas-water ratio.
