Summary: Women are more susceptible to autoimmune diseases, not only due to sex hormones, but also because of X-linked genetic factors. X chromosome inactivation in female mammals results in cellular mosaicism and escape of some X-linked genes from inactivation, impacting the functional plasticity of female immune cells.

Summary: Based on the epidemiological characteristics, estrogen may be responsible for the susceptibility and age selectivity of women in Xp11.2 translocation renal cell carcinoma (Xp11.2 tRCC). Rad54l2, a key effector protein of estrogen-mediated DNA damage, is downregulated in multiple cancers, but its role in the epidemiological characteristics of Xp11.2 tRCC needs further investigation.

Summary: Protein S-nitrosylation plays a crucial role in various processes in health and disease, and it is implicated in synaptic damage in Alzheimer's disease. By studying SNO proteins in AD brains, we found that the formation of SNO-C3 is sex-dependent and may contribute to cognitive decline through increased synaptic phagocytosis.

Summary: Ixekizumab (Taltz(®)) is a humanized anti-IL-17A monoclonal antibody used to treat inflammatory diseases. Overweight or obesity may be protective against ixekizumab-induced injection site reactions, while a positive family history of psoriasis may be a potential risk factor. Additionally, patients experiencing diarrhea after ixekizumab injection are at higher risk for developing injection site reactions.

Summary: This study examined the psychological characteristics of female field hockey players in a national talent development program in North America. The results showed that age, selection status, and their interaction played a role in the players' psychological profiles. The findings suggest that the PCDEQ-2 is an important tool to support athletes' development at both group and individual levels.

Summary: This prospective single-center cohort study aimed to determine the rate of seroconversion after COVID-19 vaccination in patients under active systemic treatment for moderate to severe psoriasis. The results showed that 96.1% of patients undergoing systemic treatment for psoriasis achieved anti-SARS-CoV-2-S IgG seroconversion after COVID-19 vaccination, but impaired immune response was observed in patients receiving MTX and/or TNF-alpha inhibitors.

Summary: Flare-ups of psoriasis have been reported following COVID-19 vaccination, possibly due to the induction of Th17 cells. Psoriasis patients should be aware of potential fluctuations in disease activity after vaccination, but the benefits of vaccination in preventing severe COVID-19 infection and mortality outweigh the risks for those with psoriasis.

Summary: The cardiovascular system is frequently affected by COVID-19, particularly in hospitalized cases, leading to complications such as myocarditis and pulmonary embolism. Early detection through imaging techniques such as CT scan and MRI is important for prompt disease recognition and evaluation. The immune system's abnormal response is responsible for severe COVID-19 and organ-specific injury, with molecular mimicry possibly being the immunological mechanism for myocarditis in COVID-19.

Summary: The immune system plays a crucial role in maintaining tissue homeostasis and defending against pathogens and cancer cells. However, the aging process leads to a decline in immune function, resulting in compromised immune responses and unresolved inflammation. This contributes to a subclinical syndrome of homeostatic frailty in the elderly, making them more susceptible to immune debilitation and chronic low-grade inflammation, which in turn increase the risk of chronic and degenerative diseases. This review focuses on the age-dependent changes in myeloid populations and their impact on frailty and diseases in the elderly.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the correlation between isolated serum antinuclear antibody (ANA) and infertility in IVF, idiopathic recurrent pregnancy losses (RPL), and pregnancy complications in the second/third trimester. The study found that ANA-positive women undergoing IVF had a lower pregnancy rate and a higher miscarriage rate compared to ANA-negative women. In terms of RPL, there was a higher prevalence of ANA-positivity. However, the effect of serum ANA on late pregnancy complications was inconclusive.

Summary: The SAVE-MORE trial found that anakinra treatment in COVID-19 pneumonia patients with suPAR levels of 6 ng/mL or more was associated with worse outcomes compared to placebo at day 28. Summary: An important issue often ignored is the discrepancy in medical treatment response between male and female genders. COVID-19 vaccine administration has revealed that females tend to experience more adverse events compared to males despite following identical protocols. Through logistic regression analysis of adverse events in 2385 healthcare workers receiving the Comirnaty vaccine, we found that age, sex, COVID-19 history, and BMI may contribute to the development of adverse events, particularly in young subjects, females, and individuals with a BMI below 25 kg/m(2). Furthermore, partial dependence plots indicate a 50% probability of mild adverse events lasting for a long period (>= 7 days) or any duration of severe adverse events in women below 40 years old with a BMI < 20 kg/m(2). Given that this effect is more prominent after the second vaccine dose, we propose adjusting the vaccine dosage for additional booster doses based on age, sex, and BMI to reduce adverse events without compromising vaccine efficacy.

Summary: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by synovitis, and interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD) is a common extra-articular feature. The mechanisms and predictors of RA-ILD are limited, and early identification is crucial for timely treatment. New biomarkers, imaging techniques, and diagnostic pathways are needed for better management of RA-ILD.

Summary: Progressive pulmonary fibrosis is diagnosed when interstitial lung disease progresses without any other causes, and some myositis patients with associated interstitial lung disease may develop this condition. Autoantibodies increase the risk of pulmonary fibrosis in myositis, and serum biomarkers can predict pulmonary involvement and the early identification of progressive pulmonary fibrosis. The association between anti-Ro52 and pulmonary fibrosis in patients with inflammatory myositis has been supported by previous evidence.

Summary: Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) is a type of endocarditis that occurs in patients with predisposing conditions, commonly referred to as marantic or Libman-Sacks endocarditis. The clinical presentation involves embolic events, with fewer valvular complications compared to infective forms of endocarditis. The diagnosis is primarily based on echocardiography, with comprehensive microbiological and serological tests to exclude infective endocarditis.

Summary: B-cell depletion induced by rituximab (RTX) in ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) can lead to decreased gammaglobulin levels, which is associated with an increased risk of relapse and severe infections. Older age, low gammaglobulin levels, and receiving pulses of methylprednisolone at induction therapy are risk factors for gammaglobulin decline.
