Summary: Psychological interventions do not increase the risk of depressive relapse when tapering antidepressants, and adding psychological interventions to antidepressants significantly reduces the risk of relapse compared to antidepressants alone. These findings are relevant for patients, clinicians, and guideline developers as neither strategy is routinely implemented.

Summary: This study investigated the use of long-term ventilation (LTV) in the UK paediatric population and compared the results with data collected 10 and 20 years ago. Data were collected from 25 LTV centres in the UK, showing a 2.5-fold increase in the number of children and young people using LTV in the last 10 years. The study identified notable changes in the types of conditions requiring LTV and the use of different ventilation methods.

Summary: This cross-sectional study conducted in paediatric wards in Shanghai, China, involving 193,432 paediatric inpatients from 17 hospitals, aimed to explore the characteristics and patterns of multimorbidity in children with non-communicable diseases. The study found that 47.05% of paediatric inpatients had chronic diseases, with 16.30% having multimorbidity, and identified five common multimorbidity patterns among them, highlighting the importance of considering appropriate resource allocation and preventive strategies for children with multiple chronic conditions.

Summary: Symptoms and outcomes for paediatric COVID-19 differ greatly from those for adults. Understanding the protective features of the paediatric immune system may help in understanding disease severity in adult COVID-19 and developing new therapeutic approaches. Some children with acute COVID-19 have presented with multisystem inflammation similar to Kawasaki Disease and the inflammatory phase of adult acute COVID-19.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the factors associated with ambulance use for non-emergency problems in children through a systematic mapping review and qualitative synthesis. The findings suggest that factors such as socioeconomic status/geographical location, practical reasons, fear of consequences, and parental education play a role in determining why there are so many calls to the ambulance service for non-urgent problems in children. Future attention should be directed towards strategies to educate caregivers, increase primary care availability, and provide alternate transportation options to decrease ambulance activation for low-acuity pediatric cases.

Summary: The global antiretroviral therapy era has led to changes in the population of children affected by HIV, with fewer children acquiring the virus and more children being HIV-exposed but uninfected. This scoping review aims to identify and compare definitions used for adverse birth outcomes, and map their distribution and evolution over time and geography. The findings will inform the development of harmonised definitions for adverse birth outcomes.

Summary: During the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine has played an important role in managing patients with immuno-rheumatological diseases. In addition to monitoring disease activity and adverse events, assessing patients' mental health is crucial. Telemedicine has allowed us to identify patients in need of face-to-face treatment, even when their inflammatory disease is not flaring up.

Summary: The study identified a relationship between deletions in the 2p16.3 region of the neurexin gene and cognitive impairment, schizophrenia, and other neuropsychiatric disorders. Twins with deletion 2p16.3 of the NRXN1 gene were found to have cognitive impairment and a dysmorphic phenotype. A genetic analysis of the family members revealed a microdeletion in the father's genetic test, providing insight for genetic counseling and potential treatment of this condition.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical characteristics and neuroimaging features of children with Dandy-Walker malformations (DWM) and variants (DWV) in a hospital in Catania, Italy. Associated anomalies were frequently observed, with hydrocephalus and corpus callosum anomalies being the most common. Developmental delay and epilepsy were the main clinical features, and MRI was the most commonly used diagnostic tool. The study also found that children with DWV had better developmental outcomes compared to those with DWM.

Summary: This study emphasizes the importance of considering the possible co-infection of SARS-CoV-2 with atypical bacteria such as Mycoplasma pneumoniae in a clinical setting. Co-infections with other respiratory pathogens can lead to errors in clinical diagnosis and drug treatment, and further research is needed to understand the true incidence of these co-infections and their impact on patients.

Summary: The correlation between disease severity and PCR amplification cycles of SARS-CoV-2 was studied in pediatric COVID-19 cases. The study found that the LqSOFA score upon admission was positively correlated with the duration of symptoms and positive swabs, but not significantly correlated with PCR amplification cycles. This suggests that the LqSOFA score can predict the duration of symptoms and positive swabs, but PCR amplification of SARS-CoV-2 may not play a key role in predicting disease severity at onset.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the close relationship between neurological manifestations and SARS-CoV-2 infection in pediatric patients through a systematic review. PubMed and Google Scholar were searched for literature published from the start of the pandemic until December 31, 2022. A total of 37 articles involving 48 pediatric patients were included in the review, and the neurological complications were found to be heterogeneous, possibly due to different age groups. The majority of patients had a good outcome, with neurological symptoms subsiding after discharge.

Summary: Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by capillary malformation, varicosities, and tissue and bone hypertrophy. Two out of three signs are enough for diagnosis. While capillary malformations are present at birth, venous varicosities and limb hypertrophy become more evident later. The syndrome has a benign course but can lead to serious complications involving various organs. Recent advances in the understanding of its genetic basis and treatment modalities have been made.
