Summary: HPLC and TLC profiling were conducted on leaf and fruit extracts of five species from the Schisandraceae family. Lignans and phenolic compounds were found in both fruits and leaves of all species. The highest abundance of lignans was detected in the fruit extract of Schisandra chinensis, with 15 compounds identified. The fruit extracts of S. chinensis and S. rubriflora exhibited exceptional antibacterial activity, while all fruit and leaf extracts showed enzyme-inhibiting abilities, except for the fruit extract of Kadsura japonica. Antioxidant activity was stronger in the leaf extracts compared to the fruit extracts, assessed using TLC-direct bioautography and spectrophotometric measurements.

Summary: The study reveals the important role of ubiquitin enzymes in therapeutic resistance in TNBC cells, suggesting that small molecule inhibitors can restore sensitivity to treatment. Specifically, PC3-15 was found to block auto-ubiquitination of HECTD3/UbcH5b and inhibit UbcH5b-mediated p62 ubiquitination, leading to increased sensitivity to lapatinib in TNBC.

Summary: Schisandra chinensis is a potential plant for production of nutrient supplements, but it can have allelopathic effects on other plants. The eco-toxicological properties of S. chinensis have not been verified in European ecosystems. In this study, Lemna minor was used as a model aquatic plant to test the impact of S. chinensis extract on the aquatic environment. The extract caused significant limitations in duckweed growth and photosynthetic performance at higher concentrations, and extreme toxicity at the highest concentration of 45 mg/L.

Summary: This review discusses the successful application of cocrystallization in addressing the stability issues of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and the molecular mechanism behind it. By tailored design, delicate modification, and ingenious construction of cocrystals, the stability of APIs can be enhanced. A multidimensional structural understanding is necessary to manipulate interaction strength, molecular conformation, packing styles, and electronic effect. Prominent examples of cocrystals that have successfully dealt with stability problems are summarized, providing insights into vital structural factors in different scenarios and guiding future stable cocrystal design.

Summary: L-menthol is an important flavoring additive with diverse applications. The manufacturing and storage of L-menthol face challenges due to its high volatility and low melting point. In this study, six new solid forms of L-menthol were synthesized through cocrystallization, which significantly increased the melting point and reduced the vapor pressure, leading to higher stability under storage conditions. This superior stability can be attributed to the supramolecular cavities assembled by coformers, which restrict the movement of L-menthol molecules through hydrogen bonds.
