Summary: This study investigated the binding of the thiazine dye methylene blue (MB) with single-stranded polyribonucleotides poly(rA) and poly(rU) using absorption spectroscopy and UV-melting. The results showed significant differences in the binding mechanisms of MB to poly(rA) and poly(rU), which involved semi-intercalation and electrostatic binding, respectively. Additionally, MB was found to contribute to the formation of the hybrid duplex poly(rA)-poly(rU).

Summary: 2D MXene materials have potential in energy storage systems, but their application is hindered by challenges of stacking and collapsing. This study introduces an efficient and facile strategy to induce self-assembly of MXene nanosheets by using Methylene blue (MB) molecule, forming a 3D porous MXene/MB composite. The resulting MX/MB-3 exhibits optimal specific capacitance of 327 F g-1 at 2 A g-1 and retains its initial capacitance without attenuation after 10,000 cycles at 10 A g-1. Furthermore, the assembled TH/N-rGO//MX/MB-3 asymmetric device shows high energy density of 23.3 Wh kg-1 at power density of 780.2 W kg-1 and excellent cycling stability (94.4% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles).

Summary: The interaction between the anti-cancer drug Palbociclib and calf-thymus DNA was investigated using various biophysical techniques. The results showed that Palbociclib intercalated into the base pairs of DNA, indicating strong binding. Molecular docking studies revealed partial intercalation of the drug between the DNA base pairs, and metadynamics simulation studies confirmed DNA cleavage induced by Palbociclib, which was further validated by gel electrophoresis experiments.

Summary: In this study, lignin-based porous carbon as an adsorbent exhibited a high specific surface area and a large number of active sites, showing promising potential for removing cationic dyes in wastewater treatment. The adsorption mechanism was attributed to electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding, and pi-pi stacking interactions. The adsorption properties and selective adsorption capability of the LPC make it a low-cost and effective solution for wastewater treatment.

Summary: Chitosan/DNA blend hydrogel and chitosan/pectin blend hydrogel were synthesized for releasing methylene blue, and characterized by various techniques. The study revealed that the methylene blue loading had different impacts on the hydrogels, with higher release rates observed in simulated gastric fluid. The release kinetics of methylene blue in the hydrogels followed a pseudo-second-order mechanism.

Summary: In this study, the interaction between Remdesivir and calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was investigated. The results showed that Remdesivir binds to CT-DNA via intercalation mode. Thermodynamic parameters revealed that the binding process is spontaneous and mainly driven by electrostatic interaction.

Summary: UV-vis, fluorescence, circular dichroism and 1H NMR spectroscopic techniques were used to investigate the binding mode of Mebendazole (MBZ) drug with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA). The results revealed that MBZ forms a complex with CT-DNA through intercalation mode, driven by hydrophobic interactions. Molecular docking analysis did not match well with the experimental results, but molecular simulation studies supported the intercalation mode binding.

Summary: Bleomycins are anticancer natural products that bind DNA through intercalation and hydrogen-bonding interactions. The C-terminal tail was found to play a role in directing the intercalation of the bithiazole. Specific bond rotations within the C-terminal domain of the drug were identified and may be relevant for its reorganization and ability to carry out a double-strand DNA cleavage event.

Summary: Cisplatin, a platinum-based cytostatic drug used for cancer treatment, can cause nephrotoxicity by damaging renal mitochondria and mtDNA. This study found that exposure to cisplatin increased lipid peroxidation and induced damage to renal mtDNA. On the other hand, methylene blue protected kidney mitochondria by activating the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway and promoting the expression of antioxidant genes and genes related to mtDNA repair. This research highlights the significance of using methylene blue to protect kidney mitochondria from cisplatin-induced damage in medicine.

Summary: The interaction between the antiviral drug Molnupiravir (MOL) and calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was investigated. The results showed that MOL exhibited high binding affinity for CT-DNA through intercalative mode of binding. The complex was stabilized by H-bonding and pi-pi/pi-cation interactions.

Summary: DNA replication is a critical point of therapeutic intervention for many cancer types, with several small molecules targeting DNA developed into clinically used antitumor agents. Natural product sources contain a vast number of DNA binding small molecules, but isolating and identifying these molecules is challenging. The study explored the use of biolayer interferometry (BLI) as a tool for rapidly screening natural product sources for DNA targeting small molecules.

Summary: To understand the effect of DNA- or RNA-specific low-molecular compounds on cellular processes at the molecular level, spectroscopic methods were used in this study. The interaction between the DNA-specific thiazine dye methylene blue (MB) and synthetic polynucleotides poly(rA) and poly(rU) was investigated. The results showed different binding modes of MB to single-stranded and double-stranded structures of the polynucleotides. This study contributes to the understanding of the structural-functional properties of nucleic acids in cells.

Summary: The study on the interaction of thiazine dye methylene blue (MB) with DNA and albumin revealed that MB stabilizes the native structure of these biomolecules, increasing the melting temperature of the complexes. MB binds to DNA by intercalation and electrostatic mechanisms, while the main binding mode with albumin is electrostatic, leading to protein stabilization.
