Summary: In this study, PHB and TEC were blended to investigate the effects of TEC as a plasticizer on the properties of PHB. Increasing the mass fraction of TEC led to gradual changes in mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of PHB, with TEC acting as an efficient plasticizer. The presence of TEC reduced the glass transition and melting temperatures of PHB, expanded the processing window of temperature, and influenced the crystallization kinetics and morphology of PHB.

Summary: In this work, PHBV composites were prepared using TEC as a biodegradable plasticizer and SBF as reinforcement via melting extrusion. TEC reduced the viscosity and thermomechanical degradation of PHBV, while SBF acted as a nucleation agent for PHBV crystallization and enhanced the tensile properties of the matrix. TEC and SBF had antagonistic effects on the properties of the composites, providing opportunities for property tuning by varying the composition.

Summary: The study demonstrates that adding macadamia nutshell residues to low-density polyethylene composites can significantly increase the material's stiffness, but it may lead to a decrease in toughness and resilience, affecting impact energy absorption. The composite with 20% macadamia nutshell residues shows the best tensile and flexural mechanical performance, while also promoting an increase in crystallinity.

Summary: Water hyacinth fiber and ammonium polyphosphate were used to formulate an environmentally friendly intumescent flame retardant for poly (butylene succinate) composites. The addition of glycidyl methacrylate grafted poly (butylene succinate) significantly improved the mechanical and thermal properties of the composites. The combination of APP and WHF promoted the formation of an expanded char layer, while PBS-g-GMA induced the formation of compact, highly graphitized residues. The findings contribute to the development of biodegradable flame-retardant polymer composites.

Summary: The study found that different wood species had varying effects on fungal resistance of wood polypropylene composites, with Chinese fir and rubber wood-filled composites showing the highest and lowest durability against specific fungi. Fungal decay also led to significant differences in mechanical, chemical, and water absorption properties between non-decayed and decayed composites, resulting in lower strength and higher water absorption in decayed samples.

Summary: In this study, 1,4-piperazinediethanol was used as a chain extender to synthesize a series of new polyurethanes. Renewable cross-linkers were also introduced to investigate the microphase separation, thermal, mechanical, and surface properties of the polyurethanes. The results demonstrate that the composition and structure of the polyurethanes significantly impact their properties and the introduction of cross-linkers can enhance the thermal stability and water contact angle of the polyurethanes.

Summary: The poor processing and rheological properties of highly filled composites caused by the high loading of fillers can be improved with the use of maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene wax (PEWM) as compatibilizer and lubricant. Two PEWMs with different molecular weights were synthesized and characterized. The addition of PEWM significantly improved the processability and fluidity of the composites, while reducing viscosity. However, both PEWM and polyethylene wax (PEW) had adverse effects on flame retardancy.
