Summary: Two isomers of commercial 4,4'-BPADA were synthesized, leading to the preparation of three series of polyetherimides (PEIs) with good thermal and mechanical properties. The rheological properties of thermoplastic polyimide resins based on the BPADA isomers were investigated, revealing improved melt processibility in PEI-3b derived from 3,3'-BPADA and m-PDA.

Summary: The study fabricated polyimide nanocomposite films with 1-30 wt% functionalized hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets, which showed significantly enhanced mechanical strength, thermal degradation temperatures, and thermal conductivity with increasing BNNS loadings. The in-plane thermal conductivity of the nanocomposite films was much higher than the out-of-plane values due to the synergistic anisotropic orientation effects of both BNNS and PI matrix, and the values were 1.82-2.38 W/mK and 0.35-1.14 W/mK, respectively.

Summary: The quaternary chalcogenide LiGaSiS4 was prepared through a high-temperature reaction and exhibits good thermal stability and a large band gap. The crystal structure of LiGaSiS4 is based on a three-dimensional framework and the optical properties are closely related to the characteristics of the chemical bonds.

Summary: Polymer composite films were fabricated by embedding well-dispersed ZnO@APTES nanoflakes (0, 20, 30, 40, 50 vol%) into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix using a solution casting method. Surface modification and high aspect ratio morphology of ZnO@APTES enhanced the interfacial interaction between PVDF and ZnO, resulting in reduced dielectric loss and improved energy storage performance. The optimized loading of 30 vol% ZnO@APTES in PVDF showed an appreciable recoverable energy density of about 3.2 J/cm(3), indicating its potential application in energy storing portable devices.

Summary: A family of tribenzocoronene derivatives with various substituents were synthesized and characterized. The substitution effect on optical and electrochemical properties was systematically studied using theoretical calculations. The resulting thin films of two specific derivatives exhibited strong photocurrent responses under white light and showed positive nonlinear optical response through two-photon absorption and excited state absorption processes.

Summary: The research conducted a two stage method of transesterification/esterification and polycondensation to synthesize three biobased poly(hexamethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate-co-adipate) copolyesters with low hexamethylene adipate (HA) units. The copolyesters exhibited good thermal stability, with thermal properties decreasing as the content of HA units increased. Increased HA units resulted in higher elongation at break and a relatively high melting point temperature for the copolyesters.

Summary: High-performance bio-based liquid crystal copolyesters were successfully designed and prepared using a one-pot melt polycondensation method. The addition of a small amount of bio-based 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) improved the structure and properties of the copolyesters, including higher glass transition temperature, melting temperature, initial decomposition temperature, and better crystallization. The copolyesters exhibited a broad liquid crystal phase temperature range and viscous behavior, making them suitable for melt processing. They also showed excellent mechanical properties and hydrophilicity, indicating potential for medical and packaging applications.

Summary: A new quaternary chalcogenide Rb3Ga3Ge7S20 was discovered for the first time, belonging to the A-M-IIIA-M-IVA-Q system. It has a unique crystal structure, optical properties, and electronic structure, with an optical band gap of 3.19 eV and weak photoluminescence at an excitation wavelength of 320 nm. The band gap of the compound is mainly determined by the GeS4 groups according to electronic structure calculations.

Summary: A new selenite compound CaCu(SeO3)(2) with a spin-dimer structure was synthesized by a hydrothermal method. It exhibits a nonmagnetic singlet ground state and a large spin gap of ~329 K. The spin-gap behavior is attributed to the change in bonding geometry of spin dimers caused by the substitution of Ca2+ ions for Hg2+ ions. The compound also has an optical band gap of 2.71 eV.

Summary: Liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) are smart elastomers capable of reversible shape change triggered by heat or light. Direct ink writing allows for fine control of the local orientation of the mesogens, enabling precise programming of complex shape changes. This transformative step in the preparation of LCE actuators opens the door to precise customization exploiting the mobility of mesogens on the polymer chains during printing and the flexibility of the direct ink writing process.

Summary: A three-dimensional Silverton-type polyoxomolybdate was successfully synthesized and well characterized in terms of single crystal X-ray diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction pattern, infrared spectrum, thermogravimetric, and elemental analyses. The excitation of the compound at 375nm in solid state displays red emission, and magnetic behavior is dominated by antiferromagnetic interactions as indicated by variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements.

Summary: Polyimides were synthesized using PMDA or BPADA as dianhydride monomers, and TPE-Q or TPE-R as diamine monomers. The synthesized polyimides were characterized by FT-IR, thermogravimetric analysis, dynamic thermomechanical analysis, dielectric measurement, and tensile test. Molecular simulations were conducted to evaluate the flexibility of the polyimide molecular chain by comparing molecular volumes, lengths, and conformation transition energy.
