Low temperature plasmas with their strong non equilibrium character offer unique possibilities for the production of nanoparticles. This contribution deals with size dependent properties of nanoparticles synthesized in a capacitively coupled discharge operated in mixtures of argon and acetylene. X-ray absorption measurements show that the particle properties dramatically change during the growth process. For nanoparticles under 10 nm in diameter, near edge x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy shows a sp(2) rich graphite-like material. The bonding situation changes with the increasing size of the dust particles, showing the formation of a sp(2) poor mantle around the sp(2) rich core. This phenomenon can be explained in terms of the nucleation and growth process of nanoparticles, i.e., due to differences in the heating of small nanoparticles (nuclei) and due to differences in the gas phase species involved in the nucleation phase and the surface growth phase. Argon/dust and pure argon pulsed plasmas explored using a spatially-averaged model

I. B. Denysenko, I Stefanovic, M. Mikikian, E. Kovacevic, J. Berndt

Summary: The study examined the properties of argon/dust and pure argon pulsed plasmas using a spatially-averaged model. The results showed a good qualitative agreement between calculated and experimental data, with a better fit observed using Druyvesteyn EEPF. Additionally, the analysis highlighted the impact of pulsing frequency on plasma properties, revealing differences in density between dusty and dust-free plasmas.

Summary: Thermally stable hydrogenated nitrogen-rich carbon nitride nanoparticles were successfully synthesized via low-pressure low-power plasma vapour deposition technique in this study. Through various analytical methods, the thermal stability and nitrogen-rich characteristics of the material were verified. The material was found to undergo a transformation during thermal annealing, while still maintaining stability at high temperatures.

Neutron spectroscopy study of the diffusivity of hydrogen in MoS2

Summary: The study demonstrates that the diffusion of hydrogen molecules inside layered MoS2 crystals depends on their direction parallel and perpendicular to the basal planes. Within the two-dimensional crystal layers, hydrogen molecules diffuse quickly, while diffusion perpendicular to the basal planes is significantly slower.
