Summary: The epitaxial growth and properties of anatase films deposited on SrTiO3 single crystals have been studied. The strain evolution, lattice parameters, and annealing effects were investigated. Pulsed laser deposition films grew into square islands that aligned with the substrate lattice directions. Film annealing melted the islands into flat terraces, with larger terraces achieved at higher temperatures. The growth process allowed control of surface terrace size and stoichiometry, making these films suitable for various applications.

Summary: This study presents the processing and characterization of Pb0.96Sm0.025[Mg1/3Nb2/3](0.70)Ti0.30O3 (Sm-PMN-PT) polycrystalline ceramics for solid-state refrigeration. The composition exhibited high polarization and piezoelectric coefficients, and also showed a pyroelectric coefficient in a certain temperature range. Compared to parent PMN-PT, this composition had a ferroelectric transition above room temperature, making it more suitable for devices. Furthermore, calculations showed that it had a maximum electrocaloric effect (ECE) entropy and temperature changes for a broad temperature range.

Summary: A piezoelectric stack actuator (PSA) made of 28 layers of PMN-PT piezoelectric single crystal was developed, and the free stroke and blocking force were simulated using finite element analysis. The experimental results showed that a larger free stroke resulted in an increased blocking force of the PSA.

Summary: The growth condition of initial SrO layer on TiO2-terminated SrTiO3 (STO) substrate is crucial for achieving high crystallinity and low residual resistivity in SrRuO3 (SRO) thin films. Different thicknesses of SRO films exhibit excellent crystallinity with metallic and ferromagnetic properties well preserved, while the residual resistivity ratio decreases with decreasing film thickness.

Summary: The extensively studied PMN-PT and PIN-PMN-PT crystals with compositions close to the morphotropic phase boundary have excellent piezoelectric characteristics. Recently developed alternating current treatment further enhances the piezoelectric performance. A study on [001]-oriented PIN-PMN-PT single crystals during alternating current poling revealed the importance of cross-like and lens-shaped domain structures in improving the piezoelectric properties. The interaction between these domain structures is proposed as a key mechanism for enhancing the piezoelectric performance.

Summary: Relaxor-PbTiO3 crystals have attracted widespread attention in the past two decades due to their excellent piezoelectric properties. However, the segregation of components during crystal growth results in low-performance consistency for Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) crystals, which limits their practical applications. This study introduces Nd3+ as A-site substitution to improve the uniformity of the electromechanical performance of PMN-PT crystals and achieves a high piezoelectric coefficient in the rhombohedral phase.

Summary: In this study, the piezoelectric and dielectric properties of PMN-PT single crystals were significantly enhanced by AC electric field poling. The mechanism behind this enhancement was identified to be the elimination of a specific type of domain wall. This research provides insights into the improvement of piezoelectric performance in relaxor ferroelectric single crystals.

Summary: In this study, [001] textured Sm0.025Pb0.9625(Mg1/3Nb2/3)(0.74)Ti0.26O3 (Sm-PMN-26PT) ceramics were synthesized using the templated grain growth method. The dielectric, piezoelectric, and electromechanical properties of both untextured and textured ceramics were investigated. The textured ceramics showed excellent piezoelectric properties, with a high d(33) coefficient of 1882 pC/N and an extremely high d(33)* of 2510 pm/V at room temperature. The improvement in piezoelectric properties was attributed to the increase in dielectric constant e(33) and electrostriction coefficient Q(33) in the textured ceramics.

The film's performance has been verified through crystallographic and piezoelectric characteristics, fabrication process, and analysis of ultrasonic response waveforms.

Summary: Textured ceramics with 1% Sm-substituted PMN-29PT were successfully prepared, exhibiting enhanced piezoelectric properties and reduced relaxor behaviors compared to their non-textured counterparts. The improvements in dielectric and piezoelectric properties were discussed from the standpoint of extrinsic contributions in textured ceramics, indicating potential for high performance piezoelectrics at a lower cost.
