Summary: A novel mutant screening method for Undaria sporophyte was developed by combining gametophyte mutagenesis with heavy-ion beam and a land-based tank culture system. High-growth mutant candidates with better growth than the wild type were successfully obtained from irradiated materials, advancing breeding and molecular biology research in U. pinnatifida.

Summary: In this study, GdVO4:Eu3+ nanoparticles were investigated as prospective preventive nanozymes. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using various techniques. It was found that the nanoparticles exhibited individual crystalline spheroid structures in water solutions. Optical spectroscopy analysis revealed the presence of Fenton- and CAT-like reactions in these solutions. Furthermore, the nanoparticles were shown to protect rat hepatocytes from H2O2-induced oxidative stress.

Summary: Wireless data center networks (DCNs) provide promising solutions to the cabling complexity and latency reduction in traditional wired DCNs. This paper presents the physical layer design of a hybrid FSO/in-fiber DCN and proposes two layouts for scalability. The proposed design achieves high performance in terms of throughput and scheduler latency in simulations.

Summary: This study demonstrates the value of combining [F-18]FDG PET radiomic features with machine learning for predicting cancer recurrence in LACC patients. However, the performance of these models varies across different PET/CT devices, and ComBat does not improve the predictive performance of the best models.

Summary: An in-depth study on the physicochemical properties of [NH3(CH2)(2)NH3](2)CdBr6, an organic-inorganic hybrid, was conducted to understand its crystal structure, phase transition, structural geometry, and molecular dynamics, which are essential for its application in batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells. The monoclinic crystal structure of [NH3(CH2)(2)NH3](2)CdBr6 was determined, and its thermal stability was confirmed up to 580 K. The NMR chemical shifts of H-1, C-13, N-14, and Cd-113 varied with temperature, indicating changes in the local field surroundings and surrounding environments of the cation and anion. The coordination geometry around Cd in the CdBr6 anion and the coordination environment around N in the cation were found to be associated with changes in the N-H center dot center dot center dot Br hydrogen bond, providing critical information about the mechanism of organic-inorganic hybrid compounds.

Summary: A flexible and binder-free carbon dot/titanium carbide (CD/Ti3C2Tx) MXene electrode for a supercapacitor was developed at a commercial scale mass loading. The decline in specific gravimetric capacitance due to high mass loading was compensated by the enhancement in properties of the prepared CD/Ti3C2Tx hybrid. The optimized hybrid electrode exhibited a specific gravimetric capacitance of 373 F g(-1) at a current density of 1 A g(-1).

Summary: Hybridisation between wild and domestic species poses a serious threat to conservation management and may lead to extinction. In Scotland, the European wildcat is endangered due to hybridisation with domestic cats, caused by habitat loss, human encroachment, and persecution. A study conducted in northern Scotland revealed the presence of multiple infectious diseases in the free-living cat population, suggesting that the hybrid swarm may function as a single epidemiological unit.
