Summary: The proposed design of a novel three-dimensional porous continuous solid with negative Poisson's ratio exhibits cubic symmetry and moderate degree of anisotropy. The directional dependence of Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus shows multidirectional auxeticity. Numerical results are validated by experimental results from Digital Image Correlation data, with potential for large-scale industrial production.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of digital innovation on financial access and productivity growth of small and medium-sized enterprises in a currency union with an incomplete credit market. By separating digital financial inclusion from inclusive banking and considering heterogeneity among firms, we find that digital innovation improves financial access by addressing credit discrepancies and reducing financial frictions. Moreover, it enhances the propagation of financial mechanisms and leads to productivity expansion in SMEs throughout the currency union. These efficiency effects highlight the importance of digital financial inclusion in enabling better financial access for SMEs compared to inclusive banking.

Summary: Desiccation cracking is common in mud, clay, and pavement. This study focused on the effects of fibers on the evolution of desiccation cracking in soil-cement and found that the presence of fibers significantly influenced the crack propagation pattern and size, while having little impact on the evaporation rate of specimens. The addition of more fibers led to a significant decrease in crack area and length.

Summary: This study investigates the reinforcement effect of weak inclusions on jointed rock masses containing an opening by preparing natural sandstone specimens with multiple non-persistent joints and an opening. Digital image correlation (DIC) is used to analyze the deformation fields and cracking mechanisms, and the results show that weak inclusions improve the mechanical properties of the rock. Four types of cracks are identified, and the influence of weak inclusions on cracking behavior is further clarified by analyzing fractal dimensions and strain data.

Summary: There has been a recent resurgence of interest in cell therapy due to its significant clinical application value in various diseases. Automatic cell culture and operation technology are crucial for ensuring scalability, standardization, and stability in therapeutic cell production. Maintaining the proper pH of cell culture medium is vital for cell growth and survival. The current monitoring method for pH in automated cell culture equipment is limited, and a new pH monitoring method based on the HSV model is proposed to address this issue. This research successfully achieves intelligent monitoring of cell culture medium pH, and non-destructive monitoring of well plate culture is also addressed.

Summary: This study examines the impact of digitalization policy in seven pilot zones in China on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their access to finance. Using a quasi-natural experiment approach, the study finds that digitalization is more effective than traditional approaches in addressing SMEs' financing constraints and promoting financial inclusion. The utilization of digital financial services plays a crucial role in mitigating information asymmetry and facilitating SMEs' access to finance. These findings highlight the importance of digital transformation for SMEs and financial institutions in ensuring information flow.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of inclusions on the mechanical properties of rock with holes. It was found that the presence of inclusions reduced the stress of the sandstone specimen, increasing its peak strength and elastic modulus. The types of cracks observed included direct tensile cracks, relative tensile cracks, and shear cracks. Tensile cracks initiated at the boundaries of the opening and in the middle of the inclusions, propagating vertically along the axial loading direction. Inclusions reduced the horizontal strain on tensile cracks, inhibiting crack initiation and development. The differentiation rate of the strain field was proposed as a quantitative indicator for crack initiation stress.

Summary: The aim of this paper is to present a new method for the quantitative determination of strain and stress partitioning in medium Mn transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steels. The proposed method involves the use of scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging, microscopic digital image correlation (DIC) method, and constitutive models. The results show the significant inhomogeneity in the distribution of strain and stress in different phases. This method is valuable for assessing the weight of different phases in contributing to the macroscopic mechanical properties and improving material properties via microstructural tuning.

Summary: The study investigates the 3D microarchitecture of newly formed trabecular tissue in cortical bone defects and shows that the woven bone trabecular network is organized according to the principle of tensegrity, with highly symmetric geometric motifs. The presence of biomaterials did not disrupt trabecular microarchitecture, suggesting that the formation of intrinsic trabecular motifs is maintained regardless of the presence of a bone graft.

Summary: This paper analyzed four carbonate rock datasets to investigate the relationship between misfits of the Nur's model and experimental data with porosity and pressure variations through best-fitting regressions. A modification on the Nur's model accounting for pressure influence on porosity was proposed, significantly improving accuracy with average relative errors 50% smaller than original estimates. The performance of the modified model varied for different carbonate textures, highlighting the influence of siliciclastic content on the predictability error.

Summary: Giant hydrocarbon reservoirs in lacustrine and lagoonal carbonate reservoir systems have made Brazil one of the top petroleum producers in the world. Studying outcrop analogs is a common technique to understand these reservoirs. By using Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry, this study compared the pore characteristics of outcrop stromatolites to the Brazilian pre-salt stromatolites, showing similar permeability and pore compressibility behaviors.

Summary: X-ray computed microtomography (mu CT) is a versatile technique used extensively in multiple application areas to investigate bio-based systems. Recent progress has allowed for the characterization of three-dimensional material structures and quantification of features using CT, as well as the development of computed nanotomography (nCT) and four-dimensional (4D) characterization. The increase in temporal and spatial resolutions has led to a large amount of data that can be processed using deep learning techniques to automate data processing and maximize beamline capabilities. This review highlights the importance of combining computational tools with experimental data in this field.

Summary: Assessing the physical and mechanical behavior of rocks under different temperatures is crucial for evaluating rock integrity in various applications. This study tested marbles with different compositions and observed significant thermal cracking, mass loss, and porosity increase at temperatures above 400 degrees C. The dominant dissipated energy and multiple scattering effects indicate the generation of new fracturing surfaces. The percentage of dolomite was found to have a high influence on the mechanical behavior even at low temperatures.
