In this study, effect of ellagic acid on some haematological, immunological and antioxidant parameters in the blood and various tissues of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) were examined. Four groups of rainbow trout were fed experimental diets containing either no ellagic acid (control) or supplemented with ellagic acid at 50mg/kg diet (EA-50), 100mg/kg diet (EA-100) or 150mg/kg diet (EA-150) for 21days. Samples of the blood and tissue (liver, kidney and spleen) were collected at the end of the experiment and analysed for their haematological profile (the red blood cell count, the haemoglobin concentration and the haematocrit level), immune response (the white blood cell count, the oxidative radical production (NBT activity), the total plasma protein and total immunoglobulin level) and oxidant/antioxidant status (the malondialdehyde level, the superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase activity as well as the reduced glutathione concentration). The findings of this study demonstrated that ellagic acid had a positive effect on the haematological parameters, the immune response and the antioxidant enzyme activities of the fish.

Ameliorative effect of Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) essential oil on chlorpyrifos toxicity inCyprinus carpio

Summary: The study showed that the protective effect of Fennel essential oil (FEO) against Chlorpyrifos-induced toxicity in carp was significant. While CPF treatment led to a decrease in Hb, NBT, and TI levels, as well as an increase in MDA levels and a decrease in GSH, AChE, CAT, and GPx activities, FEO treatment improved these parameters. Additionally, AChE activity was not improved by FEO treatment.

Effect of ellagic acid on growth and some antioxidant parameters in scaly carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Tuncay Eksen, Serpil Mise Yonar

Summary: In this study, the effects of ellagic acid on growth performance and antioxidant status in scaly carp were investigated. It was found that ellagic acid can significantly decrease malondialdehyde levels and increase catalase and glutathione-S-transferase activities as well as reduced glutathione levels in the liver and kidney of fish. Ellagic acid can be concluded to be effective as an antioxidant in fish.

Summary: The study revealed that ellagic acid can alleviate chlorpyrifos-induced oxidative stress in carp by reducing malondialdehyde levels and restoring antioxidant enzyme activities.

Investigation of antioxidant effect of pollen in scaly carp (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758) in different water temperature

Merve Taskan, Muhammet Enis Yonar

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of adding pollen to the feed of scaly carp (Cyprinus carpio) on immunological and antioxidant parameters under different water temperatures. The results showed a significant increase in NBT activity at 18 degrees C, while the decrease at 28 degrees C was not significant. The total protein and total immunoglobulin levels decreased at 18 degrees C, while there was no significant increase at 28 degrees C. Adding pollen did not show any significant difference in NBT activity, total protein, and total immunoglobulin levels. The study suggests that adding pollen can help reduce stress in fish caused by temperature differences.

Effect of different stocking densities on growth, oxidative stress, antioxidant enzymes, and hematological and immunological values of European catfish (Silurus glanis L., 1758)

Summary: This study examined the effects of different stocking densities on the growth, oxidative stress, antioxidant enzymes, and hematological and immunological values in European catfish. The findings showed that high stocking densities can lead to oxidative stress in fish and have negative impacts on their health and growth.
