Summary: WRKY transcription factors play critical roles in plant physiological processes and stress responses, and TKS WRKY TFs have unique characteristics compared to other plant WRKY TFs. In this study, 72 TKS WRKY TFs were identified and named, and the core motifs and structure of the WRKY motif were analyzed. Phylogenetic analysis divided these TFs into three groups, and genes in the same group usually showed similar exon-intron structure and motif composition. Additionally, almost all TKS WRKY genes contained cis-elements related to stress response. Expression profiling of TkWRKY genes revealed significant upregulation under cold or heat stress conditions. These findings provide insights into the function of the TKS WRKY gene family and its potential for genetic improvement.

Summary: This study sequenced 58 wild Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin individuals and revealed their population structure and genetic diversity. Three distinct groups were identified based on SNP phylogenetic and agronomic traits cluster analysis, with evidence of population expansion and gene flow between populations. Natural selection regions were identified in one population, providing insights into genetic adaptation of TKS.

Summary: This study investigated the recovery of TK natural rubber latex (TNRL) using aqueous extraction and the use of EDTA to improve rubber particle buoyancy. EDTA treatment significantly increased latex extraction and reduced concentrations of divalent cations in rubber particles. Long term storage resulted in the leaching of divalent cations, while EDTA prevented particle agglomeration. Removal of divalent cations increased particle packing density and gel content of dried latex samples.

Summary: In this study, the primary and secondary metabolites of TKS leaves were investigated using UPLC-ESI-MS/MS, and a total of 229 metabolites were identified. Carboxylic acid derivatives, fatty acyls, phenols, and organooxygen compounds were found to be the major metabolites of TKS. Transcriptome data revealed significant differential expression of genes related to ribosomal, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, and linoleic acid metabolism. This study is the first to report the metabolic and transcriptome profiles of TKS leaves under exogenous ethephon spray, enhancing our understanding of the main metabolites and their molecular mechanisms in TKS leaves.

Summary: Natural rubber has unique properties that cannot be matched by synthetic rubber, with production mainly dependent on the rubber tree. However, challenges such as specialized growth conditions and susceptibility to fungal pathogens require the development of alternative rubber-producing sources to increase production diversity.

Summary: Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin (TKS) shows great potential as an alternative natural-rubber (NR)-producing crop, but its germplasm innovation is hindered by self-incompatibility. This study investigates the potential use of carbon-ion beam (CIB) irradiation for mutation breeding of TKS. Results show that CIB irradiation affects the growth, physiological parameters, and gene expression pattern of TKS. The study provides valuable insights into the radiation response mechanism and future mutation breeding strategies for TKS.

Summary: MADS-box genes were identified in the genomes of Taraxacum kok-saghyz (TKS) and Taraxacum mongolicum (TM), and 11 duplications promoting gene expansion were found between the two species. TkMADS and TmMADS genes showed high conservation and good collinearity. TkMADS genes exhibited tissue-specific expression patterns, especially in flowers, indicating their conserved and dominant functions in flower development in TKS. Moreover, 25 TkMADS genes related to biomass formation and 4 TkMADS genes related to NR content were identified, providing new targets for improving NR yield in TKS.

Summary: In this study, alkaline pretreatment was used to optimize rubber extraction from Taraxacum kok-saghyz roots, resulting in increased rubber yield but decreased molecular weight and gel content. However, rubber purity and thermal properties were largely unaffected by the pretreatment conditions.

Summary: This study provides the first analysis of histone-modifying genes (HMGs) in Taraxacum kok-saghyz, identifying several novel genes with potential roles in metabolite biosynthesis. The analysis also reveals differences in HMG composition and structure compared to other plant species. These findings lay the foundation for further functional characterization of epigenetic modifications in rubber-producing plants.

Summary: Taraxacum kok-saghyz Rodin (Tk) is a promising alternative rubber-producing grass, but its commercial application is limited due to low biomass and rubber-producing capability. In this study, we identified 22 TkSWEET genes and found TkSWEET1 and TkSWEET12 to be highly expressed in latex with both located in the plasma membrane. TkSWEET1 exhibited sugar transport activities, while TkSWEET12 seemed to have evolved for specialized roles in laticifers.

Summary: An alternative method for the synthesis of acetamidobenzimidazoles has been developed by reacylation of methylbenzimidazol-2-ylcarbamate under the action of aliphatic and aromatic carboxylic acids. The yield of the target acyl products sharply decreases with an increase in the size of the alkyl group and the reaction temperature. The obtained compounds are homologues of the anthelmintic drug - N-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl) acetamide.
