Summary: Zeolite, oyster shell powder (OSP), and humic acid (HA) showed high affinity for malachite green (MG) and its metabolite leucomalachite green (LMG) in both freshwater and seawater, while Chloride dioxide (ClO2) exhibited greater efficiency for MG and LMG degradation. These water treatment agents have the potential to reduce the amount of hazardous MG and LMG residue in aquatic environments.

Summary: Gentian violet (GV) is a compound that has antibacterial and antifungal effects, and recent studies have shown that it also inhibits the growth of various cancer cells, including ovarian cancer. The study found that GV significantly reduced the proliferation of OVCAR8, SKOV3, and A2780 cells by inducing apoptosis. Furthermore, GV increased the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and upregulated the expression of p53, PUMA, BAX, and p21, which are important factors in inducing apoptosis. These findings suggest that GV has potential as a therapeutic agent for ovarian cancer.

Summary: In this report, a SERS substrate named MIL-101-MA@Ag is developed by combining the enrichment ability of MIL-101(Cr) and the local surface plasma resonance (LSPR) of silver nanoparticles, which can produce high-density and uniformly distributed hot spots. The substrate has demonstrated good SERS activity for the detection of malachite green (MG) and crystal violet (CV) with low detection limits. It has also been successfully applied to detect MG and CV in tilapia with high recovery rate and relatively low standard deviation.

Summary: This article presents a LC-MS/MS method for detecting triphenylmethane dyes and their metabolites in animal tissue samples. The method uses a C18 column with a mobile phase of water and methanol containing 0.1% formic acid and 5 mM ammonium formate. Sample matrix effects and analyte loss are minimized using extracted-matrix calibration and isotope dilution for quantification. The method was validated using salmon and chicken tissue samples.

Summary: In this study, halloysite nanotube (HNT) was used for efficient adsorption of malachite green and methyl violet 2B dyes from industrial wastewater. Various parameters affecting adsorption were optimized using batch adsorption experiments and response surface method. The results indicated that temperature had no significant effect on the adsorption process. Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich, and Temkin isotherms well described the adsorption equilibrium data. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and both intra-particle diffusion and film diffusion were important rate-determining steps. The adsorption was found to be exothermic and spontaneous thermodynamically. The regeneration of HNT was confirmed in five cycles. The Box-Behnken response surface method provided mathematical modeling of the adsorption process, enabling the determination of optimum operating parameters.

Summary: In this study, a hierarchically porous covalent organic framework foam (TbBd-foam) was fabricated using a simple gas-foaming technique to adsorb and remove two typical TPM dyes from aqueous solution. The foam showed efficient adsorption capacities for removing malachite green (MG) and crystal violet (CV) within 30 minutes, with high maximum adsorption capacities. Additionally, TbBd-foam could be easily recycled by treatment with an ethanol solution containing HCl (0.1%), making it a potential adsorbent for contaminated water remediation.

Summary: Brief soaking of rice at above gelatinization temperature for 10 minutes can reduce iAs content in rice by up to 48.4%. A soaking protocol has been developed for public use, reducing iAs in non-waxy white rice by an average of 39.5 +/- 6.6% (n = 12). This method effectively cuts iAs in cooked white rice, potentially reducing chronic iAs exposure and cancer risk for rice consumers.
