Summary: This study explores the role of ROS-mediated PARP/AIF apoptosis signaling pathway in MeHg-induced cell death. The results suggest that increased levels of ROS and calcium ion, as well as the activation of caspase cascades and PARP, are involved in MeHg-induced apoptosis. The inhibition of ROS production can reduce the apoptosis rate. The PARP/AIF apoptotic pathway is independent of the caspase pathway and regulates it.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of a novel nanomaterial, PEI-Pt NCs, as an antitumor agent in osteosarcoma. The research findings demonstrate that PEI-Pt NCs can enter osteosarcoma cells, hinder cell migration and proliferation, and promote cell apoptosis by modulating the BAX-Bcl-2/Caspase 3/PARP axis.

Summary: A series of novel iridium complexes were synthesized and characterized as potential photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy (PDT) applications. Four complexes showed strong selectivity against cancer cells with a selectivity index (SI) ranging from 8 to 34 compared to non-cancerous cells. The best selective complex, 4a, localized in mitochondria and induced a non-apoptotic cell death.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the accumulation of hyperphosphorylated tau and amyloid-beta (A beta) protein, leading to synaptic loss and apoptosis. Apoptotic pathways, involving proteins like Bcl-2 family proteins, caspases, and signaling molecules, play a crucial role in AD. Imbalances in these pathways can result in neurodegeneration. Various drugs targeting these pathways are being developed to modulate the disease condition. Understanding potential targets for apoptosis regulation and restoring apoptotic balance is essential for the development of prospective treatments for AD.

Summary: The present research aimed to analyze the phytochemical composition of Corchorus olitorius using GC-MS and LC-MS, and investigate the cytotoxic activity of its extracts against breast and lung cancer cell lines through flow cytometry. The results showed that the methanolic extract of C. olitorius exhibited significant cytotoxic activity, inducing apoptosis in cancer cells through caspase activation and Bcl-2 inhibition.

Summary: A novel ligustrazine diselenide compound, Se2, was successfully synthesized and characterized, and its potential anti-cancer effects on lung adenocarcinoma were investigated. The study found that Se2 inhibited the proliferation of A549 cells, induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and suppressed the PI3K/Akt/m-TOR signaling pathway.

Summary: Research has shown that folate deficiency in either parents can affect the biological functions of neural cells in offspring. This deficiency can impair the methionine cycle and lead to damage to the central nervous system. The study found that parental folate deficiency caused apoptosis of neural cells in neonatal rats, with the greatest effect seen when both parents were deficient.
