Summary: This study estimated the disease burden and economic impact of diagnosed NASH in the adult population of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom in 2018. The majority of undiagnosed NASH patients were found to have early-stage disease, which may progress to more resource-consuming late-stage liver disease in the future. The results suggest that the majority of economic and wellbeing costs of NASH are experienced in late disease stages, highlighting the importance of earlier diagnosis and care to reduce future healthcare costs.

Summary: The provision of safe drinking water in the United States is an important public health achievement, but new challenges have emerged with waterborne diseases. Approximately 7.15 million waterborne illnesses occur annually in the US, with most hospitalizations and deaths caused by biofilm-associated pathogens. The total direct healthcare costs incurred from waterborne infectious diseases reach $3.33 billion annually.

Summary: This study estimated the annual costs of MG patients in Bulgaria from a societal perspective and found that direct healthcare costs slightly outweighed indirect costs, with drug costs having the biggest impact. Severe generalized disease, disease crises, and recurrent infections were identified as significant cost drivers. The reliance on family members as informal caregivers among Bulgarian MG patients was common, likely due to the lack of access to appropriate social services. Further research and targeted health policies are needed to meet the needs of these patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between insomnia symptom severity and the clinical, economic, and patient-centric burden in adults with MDD. The results showed that greater insomnia symptom severity was associated with higher depression severity, anxiety, daytime sleepiness, healthcare utilization, impaired work productivity and activity, and poorer mental and physical health-related quality of life. Therefore, addressing insomnia symptoms is important in treating MDD.

Summary: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a progressive multi-organ disease that places extensive demands on the healthcare system. This study found that individuals with severe lung impairment, lung transplantation, liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension, and female sex were more likely to become frequent high-cost CF users. These high-cost users accounted for more than one-third of the overall healthcare costs, primarily due to inpatient hospitalization and outpatient medication costs.

Summary: This study aimed to provide updated information on the cost to payers attributable to metastatic prostate cancer. By using commercial and Medicare supplemental data from 2009-2019, the authors calculated differences in spending between patients with metastatic prostate cancer and their matched controls. The findings showed a high cost burden attributable to metastatic prostate cancer, and these estimates can enhance the precision of value assessments of clinical and policy approaches to prostate cancer prevention, screening, and treatment.

Summary: Depressed individuals use language differently, and social media posts can be used to identify depression. However, more research is needed to determine if these language features are specific to depression or other aspects of mental health. Machine learning analysis of social media data cannot make meaningful individualized predictions regarding users' mental health, and language use associated with depression is non-specific.

The results showed that FA was significantly associated with PTSS and functional impairment. Baseline FA partially mediated the relationship between baseline PTSS and functional impairment. Changes in FA from pre- to post-treatment were associated with relevant outcome variables at post-treatment and 12-month follow-up.
