Summary: The master molecular regulators and mechanisms determining longevity and health span involve NO and SOR. L-arginine as the NOS substrate can restore the balance between SOR and NO to promote healthy aging. Antioxidants like vitamin C increase NO production and bioavailability, protecting against oxidative stress and damage.

Summary: L-arginine supplementation induces browning of white adipose tissue, characterized by the appearance of multilocular adipocytes and increased expression of thermogenic and beige adipocyte-specific genes. This browning effect is associated with increased inducible nitric oxide protein expression and NO signaling. Additionally, L-arginine treatment also decreases white adipose tissue mass and body weight.

Summary: The effect of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation on the metabolism of amino acids required for NO synthesis, as well as its impact on running economy in runners, is not fully understood. In this 12-week study, male amateur endurance runners were divided into two groups: one supplemented with omega-3 fatty acids and the other with medium-chain triglycerides. The results showed that omega-3 supplementation increased the levels of certain amino acids and the ratio of L-arginine to asymmetric dimethylarginine, but did not improve running economy.

Summary: Impaired endothelial function due to reduced nitric oxide production may increase cardiovascular disease risk in patients with depression, while nitric oxide plays a crucial role in the efficacy of antidepressants. The study confirmed that duloxetine treatment significantly increased plasma NOx levels, whereas sertraline treatment did not show a significant increase.

Summary: Halloysite Nanotubes (Hal) are used as reinforcements with tunable surface chem-is try for the attachment of various molecules. This study focused on using Hal as a support for amino acid attachment, specifically L-arginine. The amino acid-functionalized Hal showed high immobilization and exhibited excellent antifouling abilities against Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a model foulant.

Summary: Under nitrogen deprivation, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii exhibits increased triacylglycerol (TAG) production, but reduced cell growth. Through reanalysis of omics data, this study identified a strong correlation between amino acid metabolism, especially arginine, glutamate, and ornithine pathways, and TAG synthesis. Furthermore, signaling cascades and post-translational modifications (such as phosphorylation, nitrosylation, and peroxidation) were found to be important in this process.

Summary: Late-onset preeclampsia is associated with altered endothelial function in the fetoplacental vasculature, causing an imbalance in the L-arginine/NO signaling pathway and reducing umbilical vein dilation to insulin, which requires A(2B)AR activation in HUVECs.

Summary: Accumulating evidence suggests that the l-arginine-nitric oxide (NO) system plays a crucial role in various stages of female reproduction. This review explores the expression and function of this system, as well as its association with in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes. The study highlights the importance of l-arginine uptake, NO synthesis, and the balance of NO generation in achieving successful IVF outcomes.

Summary: Recent research has identified the endogenous non-proteinogenic amino acid L-homoarginine (L-hArg) as a novel biomarker and a direct contributor to cardiac dysfunction in cardiovascular disease. The association between low L-hArg levels and adverse cardiovascular events and mortality suggests that nutritional supplementation may be effective in improving cardiovascular health.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of L-arginine supplementation on the production performance and reproductive traits of laying hens fed low crude protein diets. The results showed that L-arginine supplementation had no significant effects on the production performance and organ indexes of the hens, but it resulted in transcriptional and structural changes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. These changes were related to the gene expression of reproductive hormones and were modulated by nitric oxide and insulin-like growth factor 1 activity.

Summary: Understanding viral characteristics, mechanisms of entry, and multiplication/dissemination can aid in the control and treatment of viral pathologies. L-lysine, an amino acid, may have therapeutic properties by interfering with the formation of viral proteins and DNA, as well as increasing the breakdown of arginine, which is essential for some viruses.

Summary: This study revealed significant alterations in L-arginine metabolism after hemorrhagic stroke, including changes in key substrates and products in both plasma and cerebrospinal fluid, as well as the activity of enzymes like NOS and arginase. Early reduction in CSF L-arginine concentration was identified as an independent risk factor for poor outcome.

Summary: The traditional approaches to measuring depression after traumatic brain injury (TBI) have limitations. This study adopted a symptom-oriented approach and found that post-TBI depression is highly heterogeneous. Different depressive symptoms have distinct associations with personal, injury-related, treatment, and outcome factors.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the association between psychological pain and suicidality in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). The results showed that psychological pain was a risk factor for suicidality in MDD patients, especially for those of advancing age. Reducing psychological pain in MDD patients is important for preventing suicidality.

Summary: This study examined the relationship among family accommodation (FA), posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), and functional impairment. The results showed that FA was significantly associated with PTSS and functional impairment. Baseline FA partially mediated the relationship between baseline PTSS and functional impairment. Changes in FA from pre- to post-treatment were associated with relevant outcome variables at post-treatment and 12-month follow-up.
