Summary: This study investigated the impact of treatment-resistant depression (TRD) or prior suicidal ideation/suicide attempt (SI/SA) on mortality by suicide among patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). The findings showed that patients with TRD and MDD+SI/SA have a higher risk of mortality by suicide compared to patients with MDD alone. Suicide rates were higher in patients with recent history of SI/SA, younger age, and male sex.

Summary: This scoping review examines the evidence related to major depressive disorder patients with suicidal ideation or behavior (MDSI) in the Chinese population. The results indicate that MDSI patients are more likely to experience psychological and somatic symptoms, social function impairment, and lower quality of life compared to MDD patients without suicidal ideation or behavior. Risk factors for suicidal ideation or behavior include younger age, female gender, longer disease course, and comorbid psychological or physical symptoms. However, there is a lack of research on standard clinical diagnosis, disease burden, social-cultural risk factors, and the effectiveness of interventions targeting MDSI.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence, characteristics, and correlated factors of suicidal ideation (SI) among advanced cancer patients without major depressive disorder (MDD). The overall prevalence of SI was 13.1%, and it was higher in older patients. Vomiting symptom, poor quality of life, and middle education level were found to be correlated factors of SI. The findings suggest that even without MDD, advanced cancer patients should be screened and monitored for SI, especially those with vomiting, poorer quality of life, and middle education level.

Summary: This meta-analysis study found a high prevalence of suicidal ideation and suicide planning in patients with major depressive disorder, especially among inpatients. Factors such as depression rating scale score and percentage of male participants were positively associated with suicidal ideation prevalence, while survey year and study quality were negatively associated with suicide planning prevalence.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between biological markers and suicidal behavior in individuals with depressive and/or anxiety disorders. The findings suggest that dysregulations of immune-inflammatory markers are associated with suicide attempts, while there is no significant association between markers of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis or autonomous nervous system and suicidal behavior.

Summary: This study found that there was a large amount of variability and polypharmacy in the treatments received by MDD patients with SI/SA, which is more complex than what has been previously observed in the general MDD population. Within one year, many patients received four or more unique class-based regimens and most patients received treatments from multiple classes simultaneously, indicating the high unmet medical need and therapy refractoriness of this patient population.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the differences in suicide ideation (SI) between youth with bipolar disorder (BD) and major depressive disorder (MDD). The findings showed that BD youth reported higher severity and frequency of SI, lower control over SI, and less deterrence from acting on SI compared to MDD youth.

Monitoring both suicidal and depressive symptomatology during remission in rrMDD, preferably using self-reported questionnaires, is recommended for future research.

Summary: This research aimed to explore the rates of underweight, overweight or obesity, suicidal ideation and attempted suicide in hospitalized children and adolescents with MDD. The results showed that the prevalence of underweight, obesity, suicidal ideation and attempted suicide were high in children and adolescents with MDD, and severe depressive symptoms are independent risk factors for obesity.

Summary: This case report highlights a patient with no history of psychiatric disorders who developed severe depression induced by dienogest, emphasizing the importance of close monitoring for negative mood changes in progestin users. Close psychiatric consultation, antidepressant medication, and discontinuation of dienogest led to significant improvement in symptoms, supporting the need for clinicians to be aware of the potential occurrence of severe depression in progestin users regardless of their previous history.

Summary: In this study, a consortium called "COORDINATE-MDD" was established to define patterns of brain alteration in major depressive disorder (MDD) using neuroanatomical and neurofunctional heterogeneity as dimensions. By harmonizing imaging data and using machine learning methods, the project aims to predict treatment response at the individual level. International datasets from various MDD populations are being shared, and novel predictors of treatment response are being identified and validated externally.

Summary: This paper conducted a comprehensive bibliometric analysis and systematic review to explore the research landscape of women empowerment through participation in self-help groups (SHGs). The findings suggest that SHGs play a crucial role in empowering rural women, and India is the most contributing country in this field. In addition, the paper proposes a conceptual framework to understand the antecedents of women's empowerment achieved through SHGs. The practical implications of this study provide guidance for practitioners, government, policymakers, and researchers in the area of SHGs and women empowerment.
