Summary: Using the EU-SILC 2008 module, this paper examines the impact of perceived future-orientated economic insecurity on individual self-assessed health in various European countries, taking into account past and current financial situations. The results indicate that these effects vary by gender and country. Additionally, the study finds that country characteristics explain a larger part of individual levels of self-assessed health than individual-household characteristics, offering insights for the design of policies aimed at reducing the individual welfare costs of perceived financial insecurity.

Summary: The goal of this research was to determine the predictors of condom use among rural Indigenous adolescents. The predictor variables were selected from Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory and Leininger's Transcultural Theory. The study found that age at menarche/first ejaculation, attitude toward condom use, ethnic identity, and ability to negotiate condom use were significant predictors of condom use among the participants. This research provides a foundation for incorporating the cultural values of Indigenous adolescents into sexual health promotion interventions.

Summary: This article empirically analyzes the impact of institutionalized solidarity on attitudes toward payment for blood or plasma donations, in terms of welfare provision and confidence in the welfare system. The results show that support for cash payment for donation is lower in European countries with higher social spending. These findings highlight the importance of institutionalized solidarity for the manifestation of support for non-remunerated blood and plasma donation.

Summary: This article focuses on bulk data retention as an example of modern state surveillance and discusses the risks associated with it. Unlike traditional forms of state surveillance, bulk data retention involves the mass monitoring of communications metadata without prior suspicion and the involvement of the private sector. The study shows that current data retention legislation and practices fail to mitigate these risks, highlighting the importance of developing precise criteria for data retention necessity and proportionality, as well as effective safeguards for data security and protection.

Summary: This study retrospectively examines the prevalence and patterns of sexualized behaviors (SB) among juvenile sexual offenders (JSO) before their sexual offenses. Three SB profiles were identified: low/no SB, preoccupied SB, and dysregulated SB. The preoccupied and dysregulated SB groups had higher rates of psychiatric disorders, but none of them reoffended sexually within one year after conviction. Overall, the study suggests that SB is not a reliable indicator of high risk for persistent sexual offending among JSO.

Summary: This study examines the impact of national culture on the relationship between the adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and stock price synchronicity for cross-listed firms in the U.S. The results show that synchronicity decreases when firms reconcile their accounts from IFRS to U.S. GAAP, and the reduction is more notable for firms from secretive societies. The findings suggest that IFRS adoption enhances firm-specific information, and this improvement is influenced by national culture.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the prevalence rates of problematic gaming behavior among adolescents in five countries and explore cross-cultural similarities and differences in the relationship between problematic gaming and well-being. The findings showed that the prevalence of problematic gaming varies between countries, and it is associated with lower life satisfaction, more psychological complaints, and lower peer support in all countries. These results highlight the importance of implementing prevention strategies to address problematic gaming among young people.

Summary: This study examined the association between exposure to online pornography or live sexual content and problematic sexual behaviors (PSBs) in children and adolescents. The results showed significant associations between exposure to non-violent and violent/live sexual content and the likelihood of engaging in PSB. This study highlights the importance of future research on risk factors and mechanisms related to PSB and the inclusion of education on sexual content exposure in prevention and intervention programs.

Summary: This study investigates the attitudes and prevalence of early sexual debut and associated risk sexual behavior among adolescents in Tanzania. The findings suggest that a positive attitude towards early sexual debut is a precursor to early sexual activity among adolescents. Unsafe sex, coercive sex, and other risky sexual behaviors are not uncommon among adolescents starting sex before the age of 18 years. Exposure to drug abuse, online sexual content, and/or social groups significantly influenced early sexual debut irrespective of other known factors. Age-appropriate school-based sexuality education programs should be promoted and implemented to address the most prevalent positive attitude towards early sexual debut and associated risk sexual behavior among adolescents in Tanzania and other similar settings.

Summary: This study provides limited knowledge on the complex relationship between sexual identity fluidity and mental health risks over time among adolescents. The results indicate that sexual identity development and change processes differ between cisgender females and males. Further investigation is needed to understand the nuances associated with these sexual identity processes.

Summary: This research longitudinally investigated adolescent pornography consumption and its association with sexual development in early and middle adolescence. The study found that compared to their low pornography peers, both boys and girls in the high pornography group showed accelerated development of sexual activities such as masturbation, petting, and receiving manual sex. Girls in the high pornography group were also more inclined to receive oral sex, while boys in the high pornography group showed earlier and more frequent manual sex and intercourse.

Summary: In this study, the reliability and validity of an Implicit Association Test (the SA-IAT) measuring sexual assertiveness were examined in a sample of young adults. The results showed acceptable internal consistency and low correlations with explicit sexual assertiveness. Furthermore, implicit sexual assertiveness did not share variance with personality traits except for extraversion in the full sample and female subsample.

Summary: The study investigated the psychometric characteristics of an Implicit Association Test, showing acceptable internal consistency and modest levels of explicit and implicit SDS endorsement in both male and female participants. Convergent validity was low in multitrait-multimethod analysis with explicit SDS endorsement and gender investment in males, while divergent validity analysis showed absence of significant correlations with unrelated personality traits except for extraversion in female participants. Further research is needed to explore the differences in explicit and implicit SDS endorsements between young male and female participants.

Summary: Sexual minority youth are more likely to experience bullying victimization, particularly in the context of cyberbullying, compared to their heterosexual peers. The stigma associated with being a sexual minority may contribute to their increased risk of bullying involvement. Interventions targeting bullying and associated health risks in sexual minority youth are necessary, with explicit school policies and locally tailored interventions showing particular effectiveness.
