Summary: The study described maternal smoking trends in France from 1972 to 2016, finding relatively stable proportions of mothers quitting smoking but high proportions of smokers during pregnancy. Smoking in the 3rd trimester from 2010 to 2016 was associated with lower education level and income, but the association with age, country of birth, and parity varied.

Summary: This article reports the results of the 2021 French National Perinatal Survey (ENP) and assesses trends in perinatal health indicators, medical practices, and risk factors in France since 1995. The survey showed changes in maternal characteristics, with an increase in maternal age and obesity rates. Some preventive behaviors improved, such as not smoking during the third trimester and receiving folic acid and influenza vaccinations. The role of midwives in prenatal care has increased. However, there are still areas that need improvement.

Summary: This study found that the hospitalization rates for heart failure in US adults declined from 4.4 in 2010 to 4.1 in 2013, and then increased from 4.2 in 2014 to 4.9 in 2017. Similarly, readmission rates after index hospitalizations followed a similar trend. Future studies are needed to validate these findings and improve policies for heart failure management.

Summary: In France, a surveillance system called Sentinelles network was implemented among general practitioners to assess pertussis incidence. The results from the first 4 years of this surveillance showed a gradual decrease in incidence rates, especially in 2020. Women were more affected, and there was a shift of morbidity towards older age groups. The rapid waning of immunity after vaccination justifies the need for continued surveillance.

Summary: This study investigated trends in frailty and its relationship with mortality among older adults aged 64-84 years over a period of 21 years. The findings showed an increasing prevalence of frailty and a declining mortality rate among this age group, with a stable association between frailty and mortality. The results underscore the need for ongoing efforts to reduce frailty and its negative health consequences, providing important information for health policy-makers and clinical practitioners.
