Summary: Due to effective cancer therapies, patients with cancer now have longer life expectancy than before. However, they often face additional health challenges, with cardiovascular disease being the leading cause of illness and death. Both cancer and cardiovascular disease share common mechanisms and risk factors, including lipid abnormalities. Understanding the relationship between lipid metabolism and cancer can provide strategies for cancer prevention and reducing cardiovascular disease risk. However, current cardiovascular risk assessment tools may underestimate the long-term cardiovascular disease risk in this population. Further research is needed to determine the role of non-statin therapies in managing lipid disorders in cancer patients.

Summary: This study examined the quality of life (QOL) in endometrial cancer (EC) survivors, and found that survivors with high-grade disease had lower QOL, particularly in physical and functional aspects. Interestingly, the EC-specific QOL did not differ by grade. These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive assessment and interventions for EC survivors.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal associations between demographic, clinical, and lifestyle factors, and changes in patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in cancer survivors 6-9 years post-diagnosis in Western Australia. The results showed that a notable proportion of participants reported a negative minimal clinically important difference (MCID) in fatigue, depression, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Non-Caucasian individuals and those who had non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) were associated with negative changes over time, while being obese and having received radiotherapy were related to improved outcomes.

Summary: The study found that female cancer survivors experience more physical and emotional symptoms, while male survivors are more likely to suffer from fatigue, dyspnea, anxiety, and depression. There are differences in physical and cognitive functioning between genders, with female survivors experiencing larger losses. Additionally, male cancer survivors exhibit significant losses in role and social functioning.

Summary: This study assessed lipid abnormalities in newly diagnosed diabetics and non-diabetics and found that regardless of type 2 diabetes, lipid levels can independently cause derangement, which serves as an early onset indicator rather than a later-stage complication. These derangements of lipid levels are an independent risk factor for future cardiovascular pathology.

Summary: This study examined the impact of social determinants of health (SDOH) and health behaviors on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among cancer survivors. The results showed that physically active and cost-accessible cancer survivors had a lower risk of poor mental and physical health, while current smokers were more likely to report poor physical health. Homeownership was associated with better mental health.

Summary: Patients with endometrial cancer who received radiotherapy had a significantly poorer prognosis compared to those who underwent surgery, with age, advanced stage, histological type, lymphadenectomy, and adjuvant radiotherapy being independent prognostic factors. Significant differences in survival rates were observed among patients receiving adjuvant therapy, chemotherapy, and no adjuvant therapy for stage I or II, and adjuvant chemotherapy showed significant differences compared to no adjuvant therapy and adjuvant radiotherapy for stage III or IV patients.

Summary: This study proposes a new concept of inducing addiction to oncogenic signaling through specific blockade of target molecules. In experiments with cervical squamous cell carcinoma cells, dual blockade of Aurora A/B led to rapid addiction to EGFR-Erk signaling, and the synergistic inhibition of this signaling enhanced anti-cancer activities in vitro, in vivo, and in a patient-derived organoid model.

Summary: The objective of this study was to examine the current trends in fertility-sparing treatment for young patients with atypical endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer in Japan. A nationwide, retrospective survey was conducted, and data from 413 patients were collected. The study found that the most common treatments used were medroxyprogesterone alone or in combination with metformin, and the success rate of initial treatment was 78.2%. Factors such as histology, body mass index, treatment period, time to complete remission, maintenance therapy, and pregnancy had an impact on recurrence risk and pregnancy outcomes.
