Summary: This study qualitatively assessed trainee perceptions of resident duty hour (RDH) restrictions on online discussion forums. The findings reveal that blanket RDH restrictions are not applicable to all specialties, and there is an interrelationship between fatigue and patient safety. Additionally, concerns were raised about the lack of transparency and psychological safety surrounding RDH violations.

Summary: This study found that a workweek of <60-65 hours was independently associated with lower performance among postgraduate residents, while increasing duty hours did not improve performance. A duty hours range of 60-65 hours per week may be the optimal balance for a resident's education and well-being.

Summary: Internal medicine residency programs select applicants based on various metrics, but it is unclear which factors predict success during residency. This study aimed to identify the association between specific applicant or resident factors and internal medicine resident performance using ACGME milestones. The results showed that there were no associations between applicant factors prior to residency, resident factors during training, and ACGME milestone scores.
