Summary: This article examines the prevalence of mixed methods research in public policy and public administration journals, and highlights the differences in quality between canonical and non-canonical mixed methods studies. The findings suggest that a canonical approach makes positive contributions to methodological quality and knowledge development.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed CGM raw data of consecutive T1D patients for 14 days and found that calculating glycemic variability using different methods may result in inconsistent outcomes, emphasizing the need for standardization in evaluating GV.

Summary: The E-value was used to assess the impact of unmeasured confounding in plastic surgery observational studies. The study found that E-values varied greatly across the literature and suggested that a high number of observational studies may be affected by unmeasured confounding.

Summary: Research has suggested that mental exertion may negatively affect exercise performance, but recent findings have questioned the strength of this effect. Furthermore, there may be publication bias in studies using underpowered designs, which could undermine the credibility of the published literature on this topic. Overall, this study aimed to assess the evidential value of previous studies on the effect of mental exertion on exercise performance and found that publication bias and low statistical power were major concerns.

Summary: Statistical analysis of medical data aims to reveal patterns and improve patient outcomes, but large and unbiased datasets are relatively uncommon in veterinary medicine. Instead, observational data, which have shortcomings and biases, are often used for decision making. This review emphasizes the need to carefully examine data and highlights the limitations of statistical analysis in observational datasets.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the impact of different timeframes (symptoms-to-endoscopy and presentation-to-endoscopy) on mortality in upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) patients, and evaluate the similarity between the two timeframes. Results showed that the symptoms-to-endoscopy timeframe was more accurate in predicting the mortality risk of UGIB patients compared to the presentation-to-endoscopy timeframe, and there was moderate similarity between the two timeframes.

Summary: This study examined the impact of employer-mandated switch to high-deductible health plans (HDHP) on low-value imaging in emergency department (ED) visits. After analyzing data from a large national insurer, the study found that while HDHP switches decreased overall ED utilization, they did not significantly affect low-value imaging use once patients decided to seek out ED care.

Summary: The main barrier to the publication of observational research is addressed in this commentary, which provides recommendations on how to improve reliability. It analyzes the issue of research reliability in detail and describes the sources of unreliability, concluding that randomized designs are not automatically superior to observational research. It proposes four key principles for observational researchers to follow when designing nutrition studies, and suggests replicating the optimal size exercise multiple times to establish reliability and credibility.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between ecological factors and commercial quality attributes of foxtail millet Jingu 21. The results show that altitude, latitude, and diurnal temperature range have a negative impact on certain quality attributes, while average temperature, precipitation, humidity, and soil nutrients have a positive effect. Climate factors have a greater influence on foxtail millet quality than soil factors.

Summary: This study aims to propose an effective unit black-start strategy to reduce the power outage recovery time and improve the success rate of recovery. The Dijkstra shortest path algorithm is used to search for the optimal recovery path, and a comprehensive index is defined to guide the unit start sequence formulation by considering unit characteristics and recovery path information. The effectiveness of this strategy is verified through simulation on the IEEE30 node system.

Summary: The geotechnical ground investigation involves various testing techniques, with the Piezocone Penetration Test with seismic wave measurements (SCPTu) being a popular choice due to its continuous measurements and repeatability. Interpretation of the SCPTu test results involves a strong theoretical background and the application of multivariate statistical methods for identifying soil stratigraphy through data association. The proposed multivariate statistical approach, based on cluster analysis, shows promising results in defining stratigraphic interfaces from SCPTu measurements, with good agreement between data associations and soil behaviour index profiles.
