Summary: The risk of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in the fellow eye can be evaluated by using OCT to determine the posterior hyaloid status at the time of initial RRD. In this study, 153 patients (14.6%) were diagnosed with bilateral sequential RRD. OCT imaging revealed that 7.9% of eyes with an attached hyaloid developed RRD during follow-up, and 23.7% of eyes in which a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) developed during follow-up also developed RRD.

Summary: The study found that oral ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) can be administered to patients before retinal detachment surgery to increase ocular bioavailability, protecting photoreceptors from apoptosis and necrosis. UDCA also has a protective effect by upregulating anti-apoptotic, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory genes. This study suggests that oral UDCA may be a potential neuroprotective adjuvant therapy and should be further evaluated in clinical trials.

Summary: A nationwide nested case-control study in Denmark found no significant association between oral fluoroquinolones (FQs) and increased rates of valvular regurgitation, indicating a lack of evidence supporting a causal connection between FQ exposure and incident valvular regurgitation.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the incidence, visual outcomes, and risk factors associated with the recurrence of primary retinal detachment (RD) in a tertiary hospital. The results showed that sex, type of tamponade, inferior detachment, RD complexity, surgeon, and ocular comorbidity were identified as prognostic factors for recurrence. Worse final postoperative visual acuity was found in patients with central vision loss for more than 4 days before surgery.

Summary: This study used a self-controlled case series (SCCS) study design to assess the risk of retinal detachment (RD) following exposure to fluoroquinolone (FQ). The results showed no association between FQ and RD, and oral FQ did not increase the risk of RD during the pre- or post-exposure period.

Summary: Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a common emergency condition that can cause blindness without surgical treatment. The current main treatment option is pars plana vitrectomy, but the postoperative face-down position and unsatisfactory first retinal reattachment rate pose a burden on patients. However, researchers have developed biomaterials that can be used as retinal patches, replacing long-lasting vitreous substitutes and eliminating the postoperative face-down position.

Summary: This review provides an up-to-date summary of the significant genetic mechanisms and associations of Idiopathic Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (RRD). Despite the limited understanding of the genetic underpinnings of this condition, recent studies have identified several genetic mutations and mechanisms associated with the development of Idiopathic RRD.

Summary: The study aims to determine whether K-9 and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) can protect the retina from damage caused by retinal detachment. The results showed that K-9 and NRTIs can inhibit inflammation and protect the function of photoreceptors, demonstrating their potential as retinal neuroprotectants.

Improving oral hygiene may contribute to the attenuation of the risk of retinal vascular occlusions.

Summary: In assessing the risks of ventricular tachyarrhythmia/sudden cardiac death (VT/SCD) with domperidone use in Parkinson's disease (PD), Bayesian analysis with informative priors showed a high probability of increased risk that was robust to multiple prior sensitivity analyses. The frequentist and Bayesian approaches with an uninformative prior were unable to reach a definitive conclusion concerning the arrhythmic risk of domperidone in PD patients.

Summary: This study describes the prescribing trends of antihypertensive drugs in primary care patients and assesses the treatment trajectory of patients with hypertension according to changes in the UK hypertension management guidelines. The findings suggest that most patients are prescribed guideline-recommended first-line agents, but not all patients receive recommended drugs, particularly females, potentially leading to suboptimal cardiovascular outcomes.

Summary: In this population-based cohort study, new users of dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (dCCBs) were not found to have an increased risk of pancreatic cancer compared to new users of thiazide diuretics after a median follow-up of 4.5 years. Summary: This retrospective cohort claims database study explores the optimal drug choice for rate control in atrial fibrillation patients. The study finds that discharge prescriptions for digoxin alone or a combination of digoxin and beta-blockers are not associated with increased risk of recurrent cardiovascular hospitalizations and death compared to prescriptions for beta-blockers alone. More research is needed to improve the precision of these estimates.

Summary: Latent class growth analysis combined with marginal structural modeling is proposed to classify individuals based on medication adherence pattern and estimate the effect of statin-usage trajectories on a first cardiovascular event. Simulation studies and analysis of real data demonstrate that our approach yields estimators with little or no bias.
