Summary: The study identified risk factors associated with higher one-year mortality following TF and TA TAVR, including cerebrovascular disease, home oxygen dependency, wheelchair dependency, periinterventional myocardial infarction, and postinterventional renal replacement therapy. It emphasizes the importance of precise preinterventional evaluation and highlights the subtle differences in baseline characteristics between the TF and TA cohorts and their impact on one-year mortality.

Summary: The number of transcatheter aortic valve implantations (TAVI) has increased significantly in recent decades. This study provides an analysis of the causes of TAVI failure, including degenerative, functional, and infective factors, as well as the outcomes of surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) after TAVI. The causes of SAVR after TAVI failure are multifactorial, and the prognosis varies depending on the underlying factors.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the changes in cerebral tissue oxygen saturation (rSO(2)) following transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The results showed that rSO(2) significantly increased after TAVI, but only in patients with preoperative rSO(2) < 60%. Hemoglobin was identified as the only predictor of altered rSO(2). Further prospective studies are needed to confirm the rise in rSO(2) and provide more information on the value of cerebral oximetry in identifying high-risk patients during TAVI procedures.

Summary: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become a popular treatment option for severe aortic stenosis. Echocardiography plays a key role in evaluating TAVI patients, both before and after the procedure. This review focuses on the technical advancements in echocardiography and their use in the follow-up of TAVI patients, particularly in assessing ventricular function and detecting valve deterioration.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with infective endocarditis (IE) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The study found no significant difference in in-hospital mortality and 1-year all-cause mortality between patients treated with antibiotics alone and patients treated with cardiac surgery and antibiotics. The high mortality in patients with TAVI-IE was strongly associated with patients' characteristics, pathogens, and complications.

Summary: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) within failed bioprosthetic surgical aortic valves (valve-in-valve TAVI) is a well-established procedure for high-risk patients needing repeat aortic valve intervention. Challenges in valve-in-valve treatment include malposition, prosthesis-patient mismatch, and coronary obstruction, highlighting the importance of optimal patient selection and preprocedural planning to minimize risks. This review article provides a comprehensive overview of key periprocedural considerations for valve-in-valve TAVI.

Summary: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become the standard of care for elderly high-risk patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis. However, diagnosing bioprosthetic valve dysfunction after TAVI is challenging and there are limited evidence-based criteria to guide therapy. This review focuses on the role of imaging modalities in monitoring the integrity of transcatheter heart valves.

Summary: TAVI has revolutionized the treatment of severe, symptomatic aortic stenosis and is now a proven and effective alternative to surgery. However, with the expansion towards younger patients, long-term considerations become more important. The chance of requiring future coronary interventions after TAVI increases dramatically with patients' life expectancy despite the decrease in coronary artery disease prevalence.

Summary: Echocardiographic evaluation of hemodynamic forces (HDFs) can predict improvement in left ventricular (LV) function after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in patients with severe aortic stenosis. HDF parameters significantly improved after the procedure, while global longitudinal strain and LV ejection fraction showed no significant difference. Analysis of HDFs can differentiate patients with LV function recovery from those with persistent hemodynamic dysfunction after TAVI.

Summary: Chronic dialysis patients with AS undergoing TAVI or SAVR had similar 1-year mortality rates, with better survival at 30 days for TAVI patients. TAVI may improve peri-procedural outcomes, although TAVI patients required more pacemaker implantation and showed more aortic regurgitation, while SAVR patients required more blood transfusions and had longer hospital stays.

Summary: Higher CKD stages were associated with lower survival rates for patients undergoing both TAVI and SAVR. CKD >= 3b and CKD >= 3a were identified as the major independent risk factors for mortality in TAVI and SAVR patients, respectively. Stratification based on CKD substage may help in selecting appropriate patients for these therapies.

Summary: AV repair/AV-sparing root surgery is an effective strategy for treating young patients with aortic regurgitation and/or aortic root aneurysm. This study analyzed real-world data from the German Aortic Valve Registry and found that the surgical procedure resulted in satisfactory clinical outcomes, including high survival rates and freedom from cardiac adverse events at one year. Additionally, the specific surgical technique used did not significantly impact the outcomes.
