Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis revealed significantly higher prevalence rates of depressive symptoms, dysthymia, and major depressive disorders among homeless people compared to the general population. The findings underscore the importance of developing appropriate mental health prevention and treatment strategies for this vulnerable population group.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of depression or depressive symptoms in people residing in high-altitude regions. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 8 articles with over 40,000 participants from 4 countries showed that the combined prevalence of depressive symptoms was 17.9%, with China having a prevalence rate of 28.7%. The findings emphasize the need for interventions and further research on depressive symptoms in high-altitude regions.

Summary: The overall prevalence rate of depressive symptoms among university students in Pakistan was 42.66%. Significant differences were found in prevalence estimates based on different depression screening instruments and study majors. Further large scale epidemiological surveys using valid and reliable tools are needed to better estimate the prevalence of depression among Pakistani university students.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the relationship between inflammation and depression in cancer patients. The findings suggest that peripheral inflammatory markers, such as IL-6, TNF, and CRP, are associated with depressive symptoms in various cancer settings. These results have implications for the identification and management of depression in cancer patients.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the effectiveness of horticultural therapy on depressive symptoms in the elderly and identified potential moderators of the intervention effect. The results showed that horticultural therapy significantly reduced depressive symptoms in the elderly. Age, study design, number of participants, and therapy setting were found to moderate the intervention effect.

Summary: Lateropulsion, a deficit of active body orientation in stroke patients, is a significant concern in rehabilitation. This study aimed to bridge the gap in epidemiological knowledge by analyzing 22 studies. The findings revealed a high prevalence of lateropulsion, especially in individuals with infratentorial stroke, highlighting the importance of early detection and intervention.

Summary: Fasting interventions have shown effectiveness in alleviating stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms, with fasting groups demonstrating lower levels of anxiety and depression compared to controls without increased fatigue. These interventions were found to be safe, even in patients with type 2 diabetes. More trials are needed to recommend specific fasting interventions, especially in psychiatric populations.

Summary: Subthreshold depression is a condition that significantly impacts quality of life and increases the risk of developing major depressive disorder. Through a systematic search and analysis of 15 studies, it was found that non-pharmacological interventions have a significant effect in preventing the onset of MDD and improving depressive symptoms. These interventions were particularly effective in general adult populations, during short-term follow-up periods, among pregnant women, and in universal prevention programs. Timely detection and treatment of subthreshold depression is feasible and important in effectively delaying or preventing the onset of major depressive disorder.

Summary: The Latent Dirichlet Location (LDA) model is a popular method for creating mixed-membership clusters. We propose a new formulation for the LDA model which incorporates covariates. Our model enables straightforward interpretation of regression coefficients and analysis of the quantity of cluster-specific elements in each sampling unit.

Summary: Hypothesis testing is a key component in Statistics, and simultaneous hypothesis testing is a common problem in practice. However, simultaneous hypothesis tests can be logically incoherent. This paper studies the logical coherence of Bayesian simultaneous three-way hypothesis tests and provides guidelines on how to build logically coherent posterior probability three-way hypothesis tests or more general Bayesian three-way hypothesis tests.

Summary: Cancer is associated with a lower risk of dementia, although methodological issues raise concerns about this relationship. A long-term study of 31,080 men aged 65-85 years found that the hazard ratio of dementia associated with cancer was 1.13, but dropped to 0.85 when excluding participants who developed dementia within 2 years. The diagnosis of cancer seems to facilitate the early detection of dementia cases.

Summary: The goal of this study is to quantify whether spatiotemporal patterns in TC satellite imagery can signal an upcoming rapid intensity change event, and to explore this association. By transforming the statistical test into a regression problem and utilizing neural networks, we can infer the modes of TC convection structural evolution, providing a foundation for improved forecasts of rapid intensification.

Summary: We propose methods that utilize the multi-resolution structure of a dendrogram for hierarchical clustering analysis. These methods include a loss function for selecting clustering methods, a feature importance score, and a graphical tool for visualizing feature segmentation. By viewing the dendrogram as a phylogeny and assigning feature values to internal nodes using an evolutionary model, our methods avoid information loss. Real and simulated data support the effectiveness and insights provided by our proposed framework, which is available as an R package.

Summary: The purpose of this review was to examine the effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors on poststroke depression and suicidal ideation. Recent findings showed that about one in every three stroke survivors will experience clinically significant symptoms of depression over a period of 12 months. Routine treatment with fluoxetine for 6 months did not affect the prevalence of depression in this population, nor did it change the proportion of people who disclose suicidal thoughts. Current evidence raises concerns about the efficacy and safety of antidepressants for poststroke depression.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the dose-response relationship between long-term exposure to low-concentration PM2.5 air pollution and incident ischemic heart disease (IHD), heart failure (HF), and atrial fibrillation (AF) in older men.
